Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomMight be difficult to reach without car. Provided directions to the property could be a little clearer (entrance to the car park is further down the road than what it appears on the map).
The location and owners make this homestay special. The latter is at the foot of a historic and important Buddhist shrine and resting place of Kato Kiyomasa, builder of the Kumamoto Castle, while the former are generations-old family of soba makers. While breakfast didn't come with soba, it was one of the best I've eaten in Japan. The space is comfortable, traditional and has everything you may need, including excellent views of the city.

The staff is super nice and offered to drive me from and back to the station. The breakfast is an amazing japanese breakfast with varying dishes from day to day. The location was very unique and I enjoyed waking up in a temple, however some might prefer being closer to the public transfer. The walk down and up is amazing though. I recommend to stay here warmly.

SingaporeIts quite far from the nearest train or tram station. The walk from the train station is through a lovely area though, and the owner offered to drop me off at the nearest train station when I was leaving.

SwitzerlandThis was one our most unique and beautiful experiences in Japan and was a must do for me. I probably remember incorrectly but the house is 136 years old, in great condition and situated right in front of a beautiful shrine. The place is easy to reach by car and the parking conveniently located so you dont have to carry the luggage to far. The old couple hosting us was very welcoming and took their time explaining all of the amenities of the house. It was truly an enjoyable experience and if you try Japanese breakfast anywhere, try it here. I loved the yoghurt. Next time we visit Kumamoto, i‘ll be visiting here again. Thank you for having us.

AustraliaDon't trust your GPS, it will try to take you throught the center of a cemetary for some reason it thinks that its a real road. So don't turn if into the street if it looks like a grave yard, just keep going and you'll make it to the shrine. (which isn't at all the accommodations fault).
This place was beautiful, it felt unreal. The room was beautiful and it felt so traditional. You even have to walk through a shrine to get there it was so magical. The hosts were absolutely lovely and recommended nice places to go out and eat. Would come back to stay here again!!

NetherlandsWhere to start. Yoko and her husband are so kind and caring. They arranged the best sushi restaurant in town and even drove us there. The breakfast they made was so so good. And the surroundings are so impressive. It is on a hill on the tempel site. Great view of Kumamoto and other tempels. This is a unique spot, an opportunity to learn more about Japananese culture. Yoko, and her great translate app, tells you everything you want to know. And she shows you how things work. We loved every minute of our stay and hope to be back someday. Thank yoi so much you Yoko-san! And if you want to try fugu, go to Morimoto when you are in Kumamoto. The food was delicious and the owners were so kind. Small restaurant. Highly recommended.

AustraliaLoved everything about this place. Traditional Japanese residence, 130 years old, family run. Magical, spiritual surrounds at the doorstep of one of the most beautiful temples I have seen. We booked in for a breakfast - Instagram worthy, a delight to the eye and the taste buds. Very welcoming hosts.

JapanI had an amazing time staying here. The hotel in steeped in history, making you feel as if you've gone back to a simpler and more peaceful time. If you are looking for an authentic Kumamoto experience, look no further than Minshuku Hiroshimaya. The owner is a delight to talk to as well, and goes out of her way to make you feel welcome.

AustraliaThe only complaint I have is that it's a little difficult to access. If you come by foot, you need to cary everything a long way from the tram stop and then up quite a few stairs. If you have a rental car though, there is parking, so you should be fine.
This place is absolutely incredible! The hosts are kind and sweet, the facilities are cosy, and the space is soothing and aesthetic. The building apparently is 100 years old, so it has a very traditional Japanese character which is exactly what you want from a trip here. The hosts also volunteered to drive me to the train station so I would be on time for the next leg of my journey. I stayed here only overnight, but it's the sort of place that makes you wish you had stayed for longer.
