Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

NetherlandsIt is such a wonderful home, run by equally wonderful people. We loved staying at SOY, it was super cozy, neat and beautiful. Tai and his parents are incredibly lovely and go the extra mile to make their guests feel at home and have a great time. Tai even offers to pick up and drop off his guests where needed, he also helped us reserve train seats for our next travels and gave recommendations when our other plans fell through. At SOY you can enjoy a delicious breakfast made by Tai’s sweet parents, while looking out at a beautiful view of the garden. This was our favourite stay ever and we highly recommend SOY to others!

SingaporeThe hotel is a little outside of the town centre. But the host provides transport to town so it’s not a big issue.
Hotel is a quaint century old house. The host Tai-San is friendly and service oriented. He personally sends guests into town for dinner or sightseeing and arranges to pick them up. We had a delightful Japanese breakfast personally prepared by the host and his mother.

The accomodation was lovely, the breakfast delicious, the courtesy top notch, every part was exceptional. Personalized service, restaurant & activity recommendations, car service to myriad places, five star treatment from beginning to end. Cannot recommend enough, the highest compliments to every facet of the experience. Thank you Tai & his parents for making our time in Takayama so special!

AustraliaPlease read the property guidelines and information carefully before you book - we were not disappointed by anything as we were fully aware of this before we booked.
This was our first guesthouse experience in Japan and it has left us wishing that all of our accommodation could have been arranged in guesthouses. We felt so welcome, we felt loved and cared for by our hosts in their own home. They made dinner reservations, recommendations for walking and sightseeing paths, shops to visit, foods to try, places and times to take photographs - nothing was too much. We felt like we asked for very little but received more than we could imagine. The breakfast was so beautifully presented it seemed a shame to eat - but we are so glad that we did. Every little dish was an explosion of flavour and texture. Tai-San prides himself on his coffee making - as he should. This was the best coffee we have had outside of Melbourne (coffee snob capital of the world)

United StatesThere is nothing I can think of.
Our experience staying at SOY went above and beyond our expectations in every way. We felt so welcomed, as Tai and his mother were extraordinarily kind and accommodating. The rooms were spacious, comfortable and gave us a real sense of the Japanese traditional architecture. The traditional breakfast was such a treat and we couldn’t have asked for a lovelier start to our mornings in Takayama. Highly recommend SOY and feel so fortunate to have been able to stay there.

It was one of our best accomodation ever. The place was cozy, clean and very beautifully decorated. It really has a ryokan spirit, but recently renovated. The attention of Tai and his family was overwhelming, taking us and picking us up to and from downtown Takayama, giving us recommendations.. they even had a nice detail to prepare us a cake to celebrate our honeymoon. The japanese breakfast that they prepared for us was amazing.

Tai and his parents run this beautiful house and are such kind and interesting people. Our room was perfect and very large, and the breakfast each morning was the best food we had in our two weeks in Japan. The house is quiet, welcoming, and peaceful. Although it isn't really walkable to the center of Takayama (though we did walk it once), Tai and his parents are generous with being able to drive back and forth to town when you need. Be sure to ask them for food recommendations and hikes around and within the city as well. They are the best!

NetherlandsWe enjoyed a really pleasant stay at Soy. Tai-san and his family are so welcoming and make you feel at home. Both the Japanese and Western style breakfasts were very delicious. This place is located perfectly in the middle for daytrips to Shirakawago and Kamikochi. In the evening Tai or his family were very willing to help suggesting nice places to eat and drive us there as well. We loved it here and would definitely recommend this accomodation.

AustraliaTai and his family were such wonderful hosts! We honestly couldn't have asked for more. We felt so at home and the japanese breakfast was incredible! Tai was always ready to give us a lift into town and we loved staying just that little bit further away, it was so special. The stay itself felt so traditional, the rooms were beautiful and everything felt so homely. This kind of hospitality is hard to find so would 100% recommend.

United StatesTai was incredibly attentive and kind. Here are the numerous ways he went above and beyond: -picked up our baggage at the station upon arrival -picked us up from a local bar once we were done exploring -drove us to the rental car station and translated to make sure we got everything we needed from the station -explained in detail how to visit the local sites and how to get there -drove us to the exit to make sure we were on the right path to the local sights -dropped off our baggage at the train station prior to our departure This doesn’t even cover the time spent at the hotel which was also excellent and far exceeded expectations. A monument should be constructed in honor of Tais kindness. A must stay destination.

United StatesAbsolutely everything. The house itself is a beautiful traditional Japanese guest house. The food was an amazing home-cooked Japanese breakfast. But what really was special was the level of hospitality Tai and his family provided. Better than any B&Bs we’ve stayed in in the US. We only stayed one night, but they made us feel so special and were so incredibly helpful with coordinating our move to our next destination in our trip. While the guesthouse isn’t directly in city center, Tai shuttled us to and from where we needed to go and was incredibly responsive. You won’t notice you’re not downtown as this stay provides the same level of convenience. He also speaks great English so it’s a great spot for any international travelers.
