Opposite the beach with a great view, some nice dinner spots near by and great access to beach for surfing and sightseeing. The rooms were new and fresh, very clean and the hosts went above and beyond to make the stay enjoyable for us. Would recommend.

The room was perfect and had everything that we needed! The view overlooking the ocean was gorgeous and it was nice to get to hang out on the balcony in the morning. The hosts are super nice and welcoming. The bathrooms are shared but it was kept nice and clean every day. You can request a kettle for tea and coffee if you need to. Can't wait to come back to Amami and stay again!

We loved staying at Halemakana! The property is right by the ocean, and nicely positioned so you can sit on the balcony and look out at sea. It is a short 15 minute drive from the airport, and parking is available. Additionally there are many nearby beaches for swimming/snorkeling, and our hosts kindly recommended good restaurants and sites for birding. The rooms were very clean, and the futons were thick and very comfortable. Likewise, the shared bathrooms were kept clean and we were given fresh towels daily. It's also possible to request a kettle in your room to make tea/coffee. The owners are so welcoming and friendly, and were accommodating even though I can only speak a little Japanese. Check-in was easy, and they were accommodating when we took a night tour and had to return to Halemakana late. I highly recommend staying here: it's a good base to explore Amami from, and a very relaxing place to stay. We spent lots of time on the balcony just watching the sea and the birds! This is a wonderful place, and I hope to stay here if I visit Amami again!

Wonderful place in such a great environment. The hosts are so nice and welcoming. The decoration is great. The sea view is stunning. You even have a room with a micro wave when you can snack if need be. Several shops around and great places to eat. It is close to a bus stop too and in 30 min you are in Naze the capital. There is a place closeby where you can have a massage too. We absolutly loved it. Thank you so much.

There is some traffic noise, but not a problem

A comfortable and well appointed guest room in a small guesthouse at the beach, a few metres from Heart Rock. Wonderful sea views. Good swimming and snorkelling. Catch the local airport bus to get here from airport or ferry. Some distance to grocery stores, so be prepared if you do not have your own transport. Friendly and welcoming owners.

Not a problem for me, but the bed is a mattress, may be too small for some people. You sleep on the mattress on the floor.

Perfect location and clean room at a very good price. Hospitable host. Shared bathroom but brand new and there are only two other guest rooms, so you never wait long. Room is large with ocean view.

We loved the sea view from the room and enjoyed sitting on the balcony every day. The guesthouse is extremely clean and modern, so it felt very comfortable staying there. Even though the bedding is futon, it's very comfortable and it's convenient that you can store it away during the day to have more space in the room. The two owners are extremely friendly, helpful and polite. Every day we got new towels and mugs and were also able to rent a kettle for our stay. Having spent a week on the island, I think this guesthouse is in a perfect location: right across one of the most stunning beaches (and perfect for snorkelling) and close to a few restaurants and shops. I highly recommend it.

This hotel is much more than what I expected. Very clean/new facility and well maintained. It’s close to airport bus stop, easy to commute to/from airport. Room faces sea side. Perfect for a sip at balcony in evening with sea breeze. Walkable distance to beach, heart rock, and some nice eatery places. Went there for sunrise and yoga, and even saw some sea turtles. Owner is a sweet couple who are really kind and caring, introduced local sightseeing places when I checked in and asked about if I slept well when I checked out. I totally would stay here again for my future visits. Oh btw, you can see stars from your own futon bed when weather is good mid of the night. To sum it up, highlights of my stay: 1. walked to beach for morning yoga. 2. amazing dinner at izakaya 3rd Place. 3. woke up mid of the night and saw millions of star 4. a nice bakery close by that can be accessed by bus. 5. I cycled all over the place but wish I could go even further.

No water boiler in the room to Drink a tea or coffee in the room. Since the shops are quite far ( if the transport is by bus and not with a rent car), it would be better to provide a water boiler in the room and some coffee, tea bags provided as a service!

Sea view! The owners were very nice and helpful, gave us a some maps and some hand drawn map to explain the area. We found a beer and a coke in our fridge as a welcome gesture!

Location is fantastic. 😎 The ocean is literally across the street & great for swimming /snorkeling. Wonderful ocean view from the balcony. Highly recommend drinks 🍹 on the balcony watching the moon rise over the ocean, or enjoying a coffee & ocean breeze to start your day. ☕️ Rooms are spartan, but clean. ‘Elua has a small 2seat sofa & end table. Small refrigerator with Welcome beer & water. You can use a hot pot water boiler in room for coffee or tea. Toilets, sink & shower are shared, well maintained & kept clean. Although there were other guests, you’d not notice…very quiet. I only interacted with the owners at checkin. They were friendly & took the time to show me the rooms & facilities. The air conditioning kept the room cool. Personally I don’t like sleeping with air conditioning. You can borrow a circular fan & at night you could open the balcony window & take advantage of the ocean breeze to cool the room.🧊 Although no meal service is provided there is complimentary tea & coffee & Welcome Drinks 🤩, there are a number of good restaurants & cafes nearby as well as small convenience store. Highly Recommended. I will stay here again.
