Nothing to complain~

Very near to shin-shimashima station. Also near to convenience store. They also have a restaurant so you can reserve your slot for dinner~ they’re vegetarian dish is delicious!

Rather old and basic, but for some that's the appeal, just not my style.

Friendly manager, nice guest house with shared bathroom and toilet, good kitchen, laundry and common room, convenient to train/bus station and convenience store. Japanese style sleeping and a hammock too if you prefer.

It’s a bit noisy since it’s near the train tracks but we slept well with ear plugs.

It had everything you may need for a short stay. Bathrooms had shampoo, conditioner and body wash as well as air dryer. Towels were also available. The staff were very polite and friendly. The location is very close to Kamikochi if you are planning to go hike.

The installations are quite rudimentary but they work perfectly fine. You can hear quite a bit of the outside (and indoor) noises.

Perfect location to visit Kamikochi, you are much closer than if you were staying in Matsumoto and it's a lot quieter

Guesthouse Shimashima was a wonderful base for exploring and hiking in Kamikochi (very short walk to bus stop and train station with a convenience store equally close by). We LOVED the authentic sauna experience, cozy common area, welcoming staff, and adjacent restaurant. Felt like a home away from home.

Perfect spot to stay if planning on hiking in Kamakochi. The staff were excellent, and love the wood cabin feel of the place. Dinner that is purchasable there was also very nice!

There was no in room TV.

The food served at the restaurant was very good although there was only one choice. Small but very clean. My first time to stay at a guesthouse so I cannot compare this place with other ones but I think this place is good enough.

We enjoyed the simple inexpensive dinner that was offered. The sauna experience was excellent. That was the highlight of our stay. The location worked very well for us.

It's budget accommodation but has everything you need. It's clean. It has all amenities required and is accessible by public transport. So there are no negatives.

Great local knowledge assistance with where to walk and how to get there. All transport options are just down the road so if you don't want the cost of staying at mountain accommodation and/or want to walk in different locations each day it's well placed.

Be careful! No onsen is this hotel, the pictures might make you think that there is one! Very difficult to book the sauna! It's not clearly mentionned and it's quite frustrating!

The price was a bit high.

Nice and helpful staff, clean, close to the bus station to the kamikochi! There is also a nice restaurant with vegetarian option, and many facilities in the guesthouse.

Amazing and cozy guesthouse! Centrally located at Shimashima, which is about 1 and a bit hours from Kamikochi, you can also take buses to Takayama and the alps from here with some changes at the local bus terminals so the location was very convenient! The staff are also super super friendly and make an amazing dinner at the cafe/restaurant nearby that is amazing to come home to after a big day out! Kitchen and bathroom amenities were always clean and nice to use. 7 eleven and Shin Shimashima station were also not even 1 minute walk away from the guesthouse which was also really convenient. We used buses but parking is also available . Made some awesome friends there

Since it is a small town, it is quite dark and quiet in the night.

It is a perfect place for hikers who want to visit Kamikochi or Mt.Norikura because it locates very near to shin-shimashima station. It also has so many facilities for hikers such as shoe-dryer and free-laundry. The room has large space (we can open two large luggages in the same time). Toilet and bathroom are very clean. They also provided kitchen and living room with board-game!

Not a single thing I didn't like. Maybe that I couldn't stay there for longer.

Genuinely the nicest accommodation I have stayed in. The staff were lovely and spoke very good english which was really helpful as my Japanese is not very good. It was really clean, good facilities with face wash, toner, shampoo, conditioner, there was a washing machine and drier and airconditioning of course. Staying here actually inspired me to own a guesthouse when I am old enough because I had such a lovely time. The dinner was also delicious and very well priced. Would recommend to anyone and everyone! If your with a group as well there is a nice communal area with games, a fireplace (i think) and sofas etc.
