Very nice place ! People there were very nice and very helpfull , the onsen was great ! We enjoyed a lot the time spending there ! The dinners were very good , a lot of food ! Furthermore, it is very close to the bus station where you can easy take a bus to kamikochi ( 30 min ) .. or to others destinations.

If you don't book the dinner there isn't many facilities to sort your own food.

Hosts were lovely. The dinner was very tasty and great value for money.

I stayed there in late December and the room was pretty cold by European standards. There was a gas heater in the room but I wasn't 100% comfortable sleeping with it on...

The cooked dinner was really nice, a perfectly filling bowl of sukiyaki. The guesthouse's onsen was a bit barebones but really pleasant. There were groceries available to buy in a little convenience store area by the front desk.

Bad smell from female toilet. Soup of the dinner set was salty. Cups or dishes provided was for public use. Heater will be charged.

CP value is still good but the housekeepers could do better.

Guesthouse Tomoboshi is my go-to lodging when going to Kamikochi. It is near the bus station, clean and comfortable and has a lovely onsen which is perfect after a hike.

The futon was so thin. I have slept on many of these in Japan and this one was the worst. It was really old and uncomfortable. Also the shower is outside right next to the onsen (not private). I feel like this could be in the description so people are prepared if they want to bring swimwear etc.

The owner does not speak any English but she was lovely and we managed to communicate through google translate fine. The place is very close to the Swandu bus station when you take the Highland bus to/from Kamikochi. The owner sells limited snacks at her shop such as 2 minutes noodles and chips. This was a life saver as there were no food places nearby - nothing, so be prepared. I read previous reviews that there were food places nearby but perhaps they have closed down. The owner can cook you dinner and breakfast for a fee if you give her notice.

superb location. within walking distance to bus station and taxi station to Kamikochi National Park. waking up to the sound of river stream is simply breathtaking

There was no area for working/video calling/laptop use open late at night. I couldn’t continue in the designated work space past midnight.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable, the onsen was fantastic, the staff were friendly and the meal you can order was sublime.

The room was a little dusty, so my allergies were a little bad.

The dinner and breakfast were suuuper good values. The onsen was open anytime, felt good after hiking all day. The hosts were also really friendly and warm.

The family running the guesthouse were lovely and super helpful! The installations atr those from a traditional ryokan, very well kept and really comfortable. The onsen felt amazing for a late night bath. Also, it's the cleanest room I've stayed in 1 month in Japan! I would go back there!

The owners were super welcoming and friendly. It is located very close to Kamikochi right in the middle of beautiful mountains. There is a onsen in the guesthouse.

Cold Didn’t like the kerosene heater as there’s the fear of carbon monoxide so only used it while awake …better if it’s an electic heater even if it costs more
