Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.

By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

MalaysiaI had to scrape my suitcase a little to be able to put it in the luggage storage. Floor is kind of rough. It was also pretty cold, cold floor and cold air in the common areas. Luckily the dorm area was heated.
Great location, easy to check in, walking distance to the main station, which is a good place to head to Hakone for the day.

United StatesHad issue logging in on the tablet (tablet could not read the QR code I had) so, I wish that was more simpler. However, when I called the number that was provided next to the tablet, lady was super nice and patience
Simple and they provided amenities!

GermanyThe hostel was convenient and good! Outside of the dorm a bit cold, but in the cabin it was comfortably warm (I was there in February). The cabin was spacious as was the space for the luggage below it! The shower is in the same room, which at first I found a bit odd, but it worked out just fine! Sadly, the WiFi wasn't super fast. However, the price of the hostel as its location (right across from Odawara castle and close to the train station!) where worth it.

United KingdomWalls are thin - so you may hear your neighbours if they are noisy.
An excellent location and a great base for visiting Hakone. Our room looked out over Odawara castle - a great view. Toiletries and shower and bed on a raised platform.

SingaporeIt was a walk up building with no elevator so bringing heavy luggage up the stairs was pretty tiring
Location was convenient and within walking distance to supermarket and dining options as well as some shops. We arrived a couple of hours before the check in time and were allowed to check in as the room was ready.

Malaysia- The wifi is really bad. It keeps disconnected for the two nights that I stayed. If not because of the wifi, I could have rated the hostel as 10. - The building looks unfinished and old from outside. But inside the building, all is good.
- The location is excellent, about 600m from Odawara Station and exacly opposite the Odawara Castle. - The bed was comfy and the way it was set up, create less light into your bed cubicle even when the hall light is turned on (which is good). - I arrived early and thanks to the housekeeper to allow me to keep my luggage in the room, before I were to check in at 3pm. Otherwise I have to drag my luggage to 3F for temp storage (no lift in this building. - No human receptionist, but all check in check out are done electronically.

Indonesiathe stairs to upper bed is not 'feet friendly. the staircase is round shape which is uncomfortable (usually places i go have flat staircase, easy on the feet). if you are up and down with sandals/shoes, then it's ok. but if you do, it doesnt make sense to take off the sandals/shoes and throw it on the floor(since now you are high on upper bed).
great location. easy-to-follow instruction (i.e.self check in). Great value. clean place.

SingaporeGenerally, everything was great and as expected for the price paid. Things that could be better improved on: Ocassionally the Wi-Fi is patchy and did not provide a reliable or usable connection. Possibility to have TV against the wall.
Fantastic location, easily accessible from the railway. Right next to Odawara Castle - great as a landmark and easy access for visit. Has various parking facilities nearby if you are driving; convenient location.

SingaporeThe distance to Odawara Station on foot with luggage isn't fun, when it rains! No convenient store around but it's ok. Hated the steps up to 3rd floor, I think my back broke 😆😅
Cozy little studio with privacy and has own toilet and standing shower area. Soft bed and 4 pillows, generous in terms of Japanese standard, most hotels, I get only a pillow that is too soft. The Odawara Castle Park entrance is just a few steps away - nice.

CanadaThe patio was not set up which wasn't the end of the world since I spent most of my time elsewhere, but would have been nice.
Very cute! I really liked the vibe of the building and the beds in the female dorm were super comfy and I could comfortably fit all my stuff inside with me. I purchased an onsen ticket through the hostel and it was absolutely incredible, definitely check it out.

Japanno good place to hang sth for drying (only in bed capsule, which is not high enough), no mosquito net in the windows, no space for luggage except under the bed but it is very loud to get it out of there everytime you'd need sth and it destroys the suitcase moving it back and forth on the rough floor, no internet in the back of the room! I had to stand in front of the washbasin or the first bed to research for my trip or write a message or sth
Stable and quiet bed, does not make a sound when you get in or move in there, good safety measures, shelf in the bed capsule to put your things on there, a lockable room under the bed for luggage (couldn't use it, destroyed my suitcase because I had to move it on the rough floor, stopped using it after I saw all the marks but in general good idea when there is not enough space, but be aware that this will damage your suitcase!), shower in the sleeping room (might also be a negative point because its loud) is helpful when you just wanna rinse yourself or feet because it is hot, toilet modern style with bidet etc., all necessaties provided (e.g. shampoo and conditioner, even a towel, not all hostels provide towels)

AustraliaGiven the price, I could not really complain. Maybe there are small traces of mould near the airconditioning unit, it can be cleaned more regularly.
The location was the main draw. It was right across Odawara Castle and very short distance from Odawara Station. The facilities were good and the room was spacious. It made our trip to Hakone area really convenient and enjoyable. There are heaps of food options in the vicinity. And we got to see Odawara Castle as if it was just in our backyard!

CanadaThe hostel lobby wasn't locked which felt a bit odd especially since it was dark when we arrived and we had a strange encounter in the train station and were a bit worried we were followed. It took some time to check-in using the iPads and we had to fumble for our passports while watching the door. It was also a bit frustrating that the check-in was pretty much the same as the pre-checkin where we already provided photos of our passports. It was also a bit confusing to do the two pre-checkins (we are a couple) as there only seemed to be one link initially but so many messages from the hostel to sift through. All the messages also made it hard to find the most important ones (with the door codes and individual check-in number) when we arrived at the hostel as we needed them for our check-in and entry to the womens dorm (the main door and main floors were open even at night which seemed a bit odd and a bit unnerving after our encounter at the train station). It was unclear if we were supposed to shut the inner door (with keypad) to the main hostel since it was propped open when we arrived and the men's dorm is outside of it. It would have felt more safe if it were locked or if the front door also locked. There were a lot of amenities in the kitchen/lounge area but it was hard to know what we could and coudn't use. We were hoping to use a bowl but there weren't any near the hot water station.
The location is great - very close to the train station and right across from the castle. There is a 7Eleven on the route from the station. The host provided a lot of communication ahead of time and seems very well organized. Although you have to use a code to get in the women's dorm initially, after that you use a key card which was very efficient. The little welcome notes on our bunks was a lovely touch. The women's dorm had a good layout and wasn't cramped. We really appreciated the lockable space under the beds for luggage. The sleeping bunks had a proper light (no loose cords like some places) and a shelf that could be collapsed. There is a sink and shower in the women's dorm which is nice (though I imagine it could be problematice if people shower late at night). There is one women's toilet directly outside the women's dorm as well as other toilets on each floor. All the washrooms were very clean. The lounge is on the top floor and has lovely views of the castle and park. There is complimentary tea, coffee and soup which was nice. The rooftop patio would be an awesome space in good weather! (we arrived at night and it was raining the next morning).
