Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe location was ideal. About 7 min walk from bus/train station. The breakfast was decent to start off day. Japanese style breakfast. They had bikes to rent for free and the private onsens were great. The rooms are nice with a table to sit at. A lot of light comes in room from lamps outside, but I wore my eye covers and had no problem.

Hong KongThe heating in the changing room of the onsen (even the indoor ones) did not work and it was extremely uncomfortable to have to change in the cold before and after enjoying the onsen.

Wonderfully friendly staff and beautifully arranged rooms. The ryokan offers five beautiful private onsens, with availability easily checked online. A charming surprise—we opened our door to welcome a cat visiting our room at night. It curled up with us and slept beside us—absolutely adorable! We also had the pleasure of interacting with Akari, the Golden Retriever—so gentle and sweet!

SingaporeWe’ll start with the not so ideal issues (largely due to preferences) with this hotel. Firstly, shower cubicles in the room was too small and toilet is a little cold when in use. The indoor onsen was a little dark and frankly, one is not sure if the place was cleaned properly because it was really dim. It’s also a bit far from the Main Street attraction but for this we are ok, we like to walk and explore.
Paid dinner that came with the stay was fantastic. More so if you stayed 2 nights to enjoy grilled wagyu on the 2nd night. The house pets were lovely and if you enjoy domestic pets this is surely a small little paradise for you. Surroundings~wise Lamp’s design revolves around a central courtyard garden. It’s beautiful and relatively tranquil, perfect for a quiet getaway. Lastly, staff are all great with foreigners. I think many of the staff and foreigners themselves and seem to have little issues communicating in English. All were friendly and really helpful. There’s a Lawson right beside the property and perfect for stocking your drinks and snacks. All-in-all, great to come back again.

AustraliaJust a small one - it would have been good to tell us in person when we checked in that we must be on time for dinner. We were too excited to explore the area so we didn't read the pamphlet properly and were late for dinner. We felt terrible about it 😭. Very tiny, otherwise our stay was wonderful!
We loved the variety of onsens (and the provided robes and traditional shoes). Also loved the fact that we could borrow bicycles to cycle around the area for free! It was a nice way to explore the area. The food was also super delicious 🤤 When we checked out we were able to keep our bags at the reception so we could explore the area during the day without carrying around all our bags which really made it a good check out experience! Of course we also loved the cats and dog on the premises <3

SpainThe only thing I did not love is that the walls seem pretty thin so I could hear the noises coming from room next to mine but I am assuming it is due to the ryokan thin materials so difficult to find great isolations unless you go to a new soulless hotel.
The staff was really nice and attentive The location was super pretty The rooms were spacious The private onsens are really nice

ThailandI do not have any problems at all while I was staying but it is a reminder for all guests to keep the atmosphere peaceful. The whole compound of this hotel is not too big and each room is attached to another room with not too thick wall.
I love the location is great. Off from the main walking street for a bit and there are convenient store around. The room is quite spacious and the bed is comfortable. It was early autumn and the weather is so nice. I was staying for only 1 night so I used only one outdoor onsen. It was so relaxing, Love it :-) The cats are awesome. I can just hang around with the bigger one on the garden forever, so peaceful.

United StatesMy main issue was the windows… there were no blinds to block out light, just the cream colored thick parchment was not enough for me to have good sleep. Also, the sink area is rather small and not very convenient. The outdoor onsen baths were a bit too dimly lit probably to not attract bugs but I felt it was too dark and so guests couldn’t see instructions on the wall to not unplug the personal onsen baths… this should’ve also been explained at check in. They have 5 onsen baths that guests can use in private, but when I went into the one closest to my room, I found the onsen bath water level to be about 30%, which meant someone maybe not very used to onsen unplugging the stopper after their soak. I waited for another bath and luckily that was full as it should’ve Been.
Location is close to the train station. I love that it is pet friendly and the cats are so friendly I want to take them home. The golden retriever is so cute too and of course the beagle puppy is cuteness overload. The garden is also nice. The bed is good size and the room setup is nice too.

SingaporeThe front desk is closed from noon to 2pm. Though they did give you a number to call in case of emergencies.
Easy to walk there from the train station and to other main attractions. Quiet but wonder if it is because I went during an off peak season. Loved the cosy compact well landscaped surroundings. Staff were friendly. Having the property’s pets around really made it special. I like that the onsen baths were private and that there is an app to check availability. The dinner was good but do note if you want a Kaiseki dinner, they don’t serve it here. When they found it was my birthday they offered me a nice slice of cake during dinner, so sweet of them. During check out they offered a parting gift of Japanese snacks which left a great impression.

Hong KongNeed some walk and unfortunately, cannot hire taxi under heavy rain storm in Yufuin. Breakfast set is too full. Could save some food waste by serving in buffet style so people just pick up only those they want.
Lovely pets around. Nosey dog and arrogant cats around. Cat meow for entering my room to inspect its sovereign place. So cute. Convenience shop next door and a number bikes for free use.
