Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

DenmarkWhat a gem! Besides offering simply breathtaking views from the terrace, where you can enjoy a cold glass of beer or sake after your Nakasendo walk, this hostel has the most wonderful and authentic atmosphere you can imagine. The traditional architecture with thick wooden beams, the great collection of books and the super relaxed and extremely hospitable staff - all goes into creating the most serene experience. After staying at the Yui-an hostel, your mind will feel at ease, and you will again be ready to tackle the inferno of Tokyo and Kyoto. Don’t ever change - we will some day come back and enjoy the winter landscape too 😀

Rey n Hero were very kind, the pick up service is great, Hostel common area is spacious, relax n comfortable. We travel in the rainy off peak season, shop close at 5pm n only 1-2 restaurants opens near station. Staying in the Hostel for Breakfast n dinner maybe a good option after a long day hike.

United StatesThere is nothing I didn’t like but if I had to mention one thing it is that there is no bathroom on the second floor for the guests in the upstairs bedroom but such is to be expected when staying at a hostel.
The hostel is beautiful, the interior design and exterior countryside. It is calm, so quiet. And the staff was extremely hospitable. The owners have put much attention into preserving the history of the home while also making it comfortable and functional. The woodwork of the interior is exceptional.

Such a lovely place! Amazing views, caring family which you can really feel part of, delicious dinner, very nice home made plum wine and als fun to do a sake tasting! The house has sweet and warm decoration and the solution for the cold winter nights is also perfect. Last thing to mention is the very good drop and pick-up service from the train station. We will definitely come back to this place if we are in Japan again!

AustraliaThe roof throughout large portions of the house is quite low, I did bump my head a few times when I forgot and tried to straighten up. I felt like Gandalf in a Hobbit house. Anyone above 5'10" will need to be wary.
The sheer age of this place and the care that has gone into its renovation is stunning. If you want to feel like you're getting a slice of history, and enjoy the multitude of homemade and local food, drink and facilities, this is the perfect place to stay.

FranceEverything was perfect! Nothing to say here.
The place is unique and we felt at home while being in the middle of the mountain in Japan. The traditional house, the nature, the homemade curry and cozy environment was incredible. We were travelling with a baby and the set up was just perfect with a plus of a play area. Facilities were on point and well decorated and room very comfortable. The staff was beyond helpful and nice. We loved it and we hope to come back soon!

This is an old house that was remodeled by the hosts. It is beautifully built with expert craftsmanship. It is set in an Idyllic setting in the countryside hills near the beautiful post towns of Magome and Tsumago. All of the staff and hosts treated us like family and we immediately felt very comfortable. They had nice places to relax including a warm wood burning stove. It may seem like this place is in the middle of nowhere and it kind of is, which is what makes it so special. Thankfully they run a shuttle multiple times a day to the bus/train station making it easy to get to and easy to explore the area. You will find that staying in is just as nice as going out. We traveled with our 18 month old daughter and they had everything we would need for her including a high chair!
