Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

DenmarkA truly amazing place, which could easily be called an inn or B&B because the word hostel does not suffice. They provide a high level of service (for example the pick-up service and delicious pre-ordered food) and the view from the terrace is gorgeous at sunset. The hosts are very friendly and Erika was very helpful and kind (also with giving us a sake tasting). You simply must try their homemade plum wine! ❤️ … We will never forget our stay with you 🤗

NetherlandsWe had an amazing stay at the hostel yui-an. It was a stop for one night in our hike and we enjoyed it a lot. The dinner was delicious and we had a great local sake tasting. The staff was really friendly and made our stay so great!

DenmarkThe pillows were quite hard, but that is about the only complaint. I’m sure they have softer ones if you ask, but we only spent the one night
The breakfast was small but nice. It was mostly the view that made it. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive. The house itself is beautifully designed, with more books than you could hope to read during your stay. We ordered the sake tasting tray, which cost 500 yen for 5 different local sakes. I would highly recommend this if you go :)

Sri LankaLoved everything about our stay.
We absolutely loved this very special place. The owners live on the property, a beautifully restored old farmhouse with unique and creative details wherever you happen to look. Our family room was very spacious and comfortable for us and our two teenagers, with Japanese style beds and pretty views of surrounding mountains . After hiking from Magome to Tsumago and taking the short bus ride to Nagiso we were picked up and driven to the house. Staff were very welcoming , dinner was delicious and we did a sake tasting and tried some home made plum wine too. The next morning we were able to do short walk in the area, had a lovely breakfast of home made yoghurt, fruits and cheese toasts and were driven back to Nagiso station. Wish we could have stayed a little longer to really enjoy the character of this place and explore the area more ! So glad we chose to stay here !!

Great hosts (we talked with one of the hosts while we eating, about japanese culture and she asked us a lot of questions aswell) Breakfast was nice, basic but everything you need. Diner was great (had pork curry) Atmosphere was amazing, by far the most beautiful hostel we have been in, located in the hills with a few on the forests and hills on the Nakasendo trail. Did a local sake tasting of 5 different flavours for only 500¥ and she also explained a few things about sake. All and all amazing experience.

CanadaThere were a lot of stink bugs at that time. They liked to fly in to the room due to the lights. But one we got rid of them before we went to bed it was fine
We were greeted by two ladies who worked in the hostel that were very friendly and showed us around the hostel and to our room. They have a lovely old wooden bath/tub you can hire to bathe and soak in which was so nice after walking from Magome. Also highly recommend trying the sake flight!

AustraliaHostel Yui An is unequivocally one of the best places our family has ever stayed!! The attention to detail in the restoration of this traditional farmhouse is absolutely remarkable. Our bedroom had the most spectacular views across the rice fields and down into the valley of Nagiso. Dinner and breakfast were delicious and the shuttles to and from the train station made days hiking the Nakasendo Way efficient and convenient. THANKYOU Rey and Hiro for hosting us...it was the kids' favourite accommodation in all of Japan :)

DenmarkNothing, it was the best accommodation during our whole trip!
We had the most wonderful stay with Rie and her family! Her and her partner had done an amazing job renovating an old farmhouse. We stayed two nights, but I wish we could've stayed longer! On both nights we had the dinner they offer, which was super delicious, would highly recommend doing that - and their homemade plum wine is a must too!

SingaporeThis rly is just a minor feedback, it would be great to have more options for food - breakfast (toast and yoghurt) and dinner menu was a little limited (all curries). Overall still worth the stay tho!
Lovely decor and design. I felt like I was in my dream home. Also, there only 3 rooms and people tend to have dinner communally so it’s really cosy

United KingdomHostel Yui-An is the kind of place I've only dreamt of. A cosy traditional farmhouse in the mountains. A rocking chair by the log burner, a basket of blankets, ambient music playing quietly in the background, a library to choose a book from, and a selection of drinks for a night cap. All whilst soaking in the traditional architecture and the snow covered mountains - perfection. The rooms were traditional, simple, and comfortable. We particularly enjoyed trying the traditional coal box bed warmers. The food was delicious and the hosts delightful. We took the shuttle bus to Nagiso and walked from Nagiso to Tsumago to Magome and back and looked forward to arriving back at this charming hostel. I couldn't recommend more highly.

United StatesThese are only minor things: Breakfast was a bit basic, but it was fine. It would have been nice if the shuttle pickup from Nagiso had been closer to the Tsumago bus drop off time since we were waiting for awhile.
The hostel is beautifully designed and in a gorgeous setting. It’s a great place to relax and cozy up with a good book. There were only two other people staying when we were there so it didn’t feel like a hostel. Definitely recommend getting the dinner - it was very good and there aren’t any other nearby options. Sake tasting was fun! Like all the places I’ve stayed at in Japan, it was extremely clean.

United StatesWe visited during the winter, so it was quiet cold inside the rooms when we went to bed. There are plenty of heaters provided as well as these cozy coal blocks that keep your body warm at night in bed, but our heads got cold since you have to turn off the heaters before going to sleep (which is fine and makes sense).
Loved staying here! The staff were so kind and warm. We were running late and would get to the nearby train station later than planned-- they were so accommodating and picked us up at the new arrival time. The farmhouse is located in the peaceful mountains. Definitely a nice retreat away from the city and an excellent home base if you are visiting the old post towns. It's such a cute farmhouse!
