Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaFantastic location to great shopping, buses and train stations close by and many food choices. Delicious French bakery around the corner if you do not go for the breakfast included option. Lovely hotel, the smell is amazing the moment you step into hotel entrance. Coffee machine in Japanese style reading and sitting area. Great value for such a stylish hotel.

SwitzerlandIt is really minor things: - toilet paper is very thin (one layer), I had better ones in public toilets.. - the rooms are not cleaned everyday which is totally fine but we still receive new towels everyday. Maybe it will be better to only change the ones that are given back.
The location was amazing, close to Gion (10-15 min by foot) and great places to eat (Pantocho and Nishiki market). There is also a metro station close-by. It was also clean, a comfy bed and we receive 2 water bottles everyday. I would recommend it 100% and would come back for sure!

United KingdomThe rooms are really very small (even for Japanese standards!) and ours didn’t have a proper window either so I’d suggest upgrading to a bigger one if there for more than one night - we stayed for 4 and it was wearing me down eventually! Also, I think they really could improve the breakfast offering.
Good location for exploring Kyoto, friendly staff, good selection of toiletries and amenities to take to the room and a nice touch to have a free coffee machine in the lounge.

GermanyThe room itself is rather small, but it is expected for the price. Everything else was amazing
Central location, close to tons of bars nearby on the Main Street. Very good breakfast, a blend of transitional Japanese and European. Extra services like laundry and drier helped us a lot along our journey and the personnel was very helpful and answered all our questions. Minor detail, but once you enter the reception, a scent of aroma candles or some oil is very refreshing and creates a positive impression. And of course the place, the room, everything is spotless clean.

United KingdomThe location is everything, it was in the middle of everything that is important in Kyoto 5 minutes Walk to the metro and subway station and outside is the bus stop. Behind the hotel there is a street full with restaurant that are local and amazing. And the smell in the hotel is amazing. I will stay again. Side note the bathroom was the biggest in our entire trip in Japan.

United KingdomThe room was quite compact (but we expected this) but this didn't hamper our enjoyment of the stay at all, just something to be aware of should you have lots of luggage like we did!
The hotel is in a fantastic location to explore Kyoto. Close to the Yasaka shrine complex and Gion district, with a beautiful sakura tree's by the river just behind the hotel. Also it it located just next to a main shopping district, meaning you get the best of both sides of Kyoto, the modern and historic, perfect! The hotel was beautifully presented and despite our room being a modern I suppose "western" style, it had that old Japanese charm of tatami mat flooring, shoji door to expose the window and a matcha tea set, which we loved! The staff were very friendly and spoke a great level of English which helped us out as out Japanese is a bit rusty! Downstairs there was a relaxing communal room where you could help your self to hot and cold drinks which was nice to see. You could also help yourself to any extra toiletries you wanted including some lovely luxury goods, which was a nice touch! The hotel also offers a small museum exhibit near the front door explaining the history of the site on where the hotel sits. The Italian restaurant in the basement was a lovely end to one of our days too, a nice relaxing atmosphere to unwind after a day of walking thousands of steps!

We loved the location. Lots of great places to eat near by. Hotel room was small as everyone else said, but it didn’t worry us we don’t hang out in the room anyway. Great skin care samples in the foyer, and a lovely sent when you walk in. A good common space to sit and have coffee you can bring outside food to eat.

United StatesThe best part about this hotel is its location right in the center of the Kawaramachi neighborhood in Kyoto near shops, restaurants, bars, and public transportation. It is ideally situated for making it a base for sightseeing and getting to the main tourist areas in Kyoto. The rooms are small even by Japanese standards, but they are well thought-out in terms of making the best use of a small space so despite the small size I found my room stylish and comfortable for my needs. The breakfast buffet had ample options, but it is in a rather small restaurant in the basement which can feel a bit cramped.

AustraliaSome people were just a little greedy with the amenities and took multiple handfuls.
The location was fantastic, walking distance to Kinkakuji temple, food and shopping malls. The amenities were very well set up, where you gather only what you need. The quality of the products were also very good. The hotel coffee and cocoa machine was very welcome.
