How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Perfect location for sight seeing and getting around Kyoto. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Very comfortable room and en suite shower. Staff were very accommodating allowing us to drop off our luggage before check in and leave it after check out. They also rang up a restaurant for us to confirm a reservation that we had made. A very enjoyable experience.

A little small tho, but that is to be expected.
Everything! The hotel was located right in the central location of Kyoto - making all major locations accessible. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the hotel was clean!

Did not like the fact that they don’t provide makeover room service unless our stay period is long (over a week).
Love the ambience and convenient location. The interior is so pretty and clean as well.

The only thing I didn’t like was the pillows.
Location was excellent. Loved the hotel, the cleanliness, the free hot chocolate/coffee machine, staff and service.

The theme and history of the hotel make it a unique experience, also fairly central with 5 minutes walk to Sanjo station. The walk from hotel along the canal to the famous Gion area is very scenic

We really enjoyed our stay. The location was good. The staff was friendly and helpful. Facilities such as the lounge and amenities bar were really nice. The size of the room was quite reasonable compared to other hotels we’ve stayed at in Japan.

My only minor gripe was the limited storage space; a bit more room for personal items, such as an additional shelf or wardrobe, would have been appreciated.
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The location is fantastic, with excellent dining options nearby. Accessibility to key attractions was very easy. The hotel's stylish decor impressed me across all areas, and the breakfast was both delicious and satisfying.

Small room than expected but I guess it's the same for all Japanese hotels
Location was excellent and right in the heart of Kyoto but once you enter into thr hotel, it is very quiet. I love the living lounge where I read some coffee table books and enjoyed my coffees.

Nothing, everything was great !
The hotel was located in a very convenient location with the subway and bus stops just about 5 mins walk away. The room was clean, albeit a little small for 2, but still cosy.

My only criticism would be the rooms are a little dimly lit, but it really wasn’t an issue.

Room is pretty small, but it's to be expected. There are only two washers and dryers (which are coin op) so the wait is long, and the dryer is TERRIBLE - I ran my stuff for two cycles and it was still damp. I would suggest asking for extra hangers at the desk so you can hang your clothes to dry.
Beautiful hotel in a convenient location, near bus and train stops as well as walkable to all sorts of shops, restaurants, and bars (including sweet shops in/near Gion). The products provided by the "amenities bar" (you take toiletries as you need them rather than them being replaced by cleaning staff) are varied and good quality. Bed is decently comfortable and there was no noise problem.
