Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsPerfect location in Kyoto to explore the city. Hotel was beautiful, room and bed very comfortable. For the price point I would expect a more frequent housekeeping, we had it only once in our 6-day stay. Staff was lovely though, and great sento in the facility.

Loved absolutely everything! Staff, hotel and breakfast were perfect. Would love to stay here again when we visit Kyoto. Room size is spacious for a couple or small family, but would definitely feel small to anyone who's not used to travelling, especially in Japan. Thank you to the team :)

KazakhstanThe rooms were nice and clean, all amenities were provided. Breakfast is good, there are quite a lot of choices for breakfast. The location was perfect for us, as it was close to the shopping area, but at the same time, the street where the hotel is located is not crowded.

South AfricaThe hotel advertises an 18m square room. That would be correct if one included the bathroom, the entrance hall, etc , so the entire footprint of the room was 18m square. That left very little space for the actual room itself; which was more like a 9-10m square. For us, it was uncomfortable.
The hotel arranged for cultural experiences such as samurai or geisha experiences. The restaurant was actually good, and the bed was very comfortable. The staff was very helpful.

RomaniaThe size of the room but this is so common in Japan... you can hardly move around...
The hotel was very well situated, close to many cafés and bakeries and small restaurants as well as the shopping galleries. It was very well designed to look cozy right from the entrance, with the bar, restaurant, reception and cherry tree. Nice food, cocktails and background music. All the staff at reception spoke good English and were extremely helpful in booking dinner places for us too. The rooms were quite small but traditionally decorated, well equipped and most important the window was opening a bit... We also had a maiko and a samurai demonstration on 2 evenings ! All in all a very pleasant experience 💖

United KingdomThe room was spacious and clean, bed was very comfortable. The public bath added to the charm and I was happy to use it almost every day after a long day of sight-seeing. Also they had cultural entertainment in the lobby every day, which really added to the charm of the hotel. I loved staying there!

United KingdomMore storage space for clothes would be really useful! Onsen changing rooms could use an air freshener, unless maybe it’s not advisable for Onsens?
I thought it was well decorated, onsen felt private and tranquil, playing jazzy music in a room was a lovely touch, i loved the matcha kit in the room!

United StatesStaff are very helpful and welcoming. Location was great. About a 10-15 min walk to the main shopping street. A lot of more local shops and restaurants along the way, so we enjoyed being able to walk through the area to and from the hotel, since we would likely have not seen those areas otherwise.

AustraliaSmall complaint but not much storage space in room for clothes.
The best thing was the dance performance by a Maiko. Free for guests, it was a sensational and moving performance. Also we made good use of the bar and restaurant. Lovely breakfasts.

ThailandThe hotel is quite short-staffed in my opinion. I would prefer if they can clean the room daily so the room feels welcoming after traveling the entire day.
Breakfast is pretty good, I like the food but the selections are quite limited, but still pretty worth it for the price of around 2000 yen. The room was quite spacious and I really liked it considering the price, and I'm glad there's also an Onsen too.

This property gave free bathhouse access! The restaurants and bar was a lovely addition. We also LOVED how much bigger this hotel room was compared to the other 3 we stayed at during our Japan trip.
