Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyBefore booking, I did not know that the room cleaning is done every three days. If the hotel cannot provide daily room cleaning service, it should give a clear warning before booking. As I pay more than 200 euros per night, I expect the hotel can provide the basic daily room cleaning. The room is also very small, it is even quite small for one person, although it can host two guests.
I like the location very much, not noisy, but it is very close to the shopping areas, and I have a lot of choices to shop and eat.

United StatesThe room was a bit small, but that was expected.
The location was great, it was next to the local market and subway station. The on premise communal bath was nice to relax in after a long day of exploring. The included coffee and tea was a nice touch.

United KingdomFrosted glass on the window meant not only could we not open the window (which to be fair seems quite common in Japanese hotels) but we also couldn’t see out of it. This made it feel it like we were caged in and very claustrophobic. Wi-Fi was terrible, we had to switch to mobile data regularly. The lighting in the room was poor, it felt like night time regardless of the time of day. This made it not a nice room to relax in. Out of the 5 hotels we stayed in during our visit, this was the only one that didn’t replenish the bottled water.
The location was close to the shops and restaurants and the staff were friendly. There is an onsite restaurant that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner.

BelarusThis is the most horrible hotel I have ever stayed at. First of all, the room was supposed to be 19 square meters, but it turned out to be only 10. The staff at the reception were very unfriendly and didn't even try to speak English. In a so-called four-star hotel, they only clean the rooms every three days, and on cleaning days, they don’t provide any water. It feels more like a low-end establishment because even after cleaning, the room was still dusty and dirty. The air was extremely stuffy. They told us breakfast was until 10 am, but it turns out the last seating is actually at 9:30—written only in Japanese, so non-Japanese speakers are left guessing. We arrived at 9:40 and were told to leave. This hotel is dreadful, two stars at best. It honestly feels like the positive reviews were written by bots. I've never felt this uncomfortable in a hotel before.

United KingdomA little on the small side but that’s to be expected for a Japanese hotel.
Perfect location! The property was cleaned, maintained and gave a little bit of the Kyoto charm. Staff were very friendly and attentive. A nice hotel all round and perfect a short stay in Kyoto.

United StatesThe bath did not have slip resistant bottom. I slipped badly and was thrown to the floor and wall. Even worse, the late night lobby staff had no idea how to call for medical aid. There was no 911/emergency number, they were flipping through a notebook trying to find out what to do - this took SO much time. They finally called an ambulance. The ambulance would not take me to the hospital with out paying first with a credit or cash [a LOT of cash]. This hotel should have been responsible for my medical bills. What if someone had an extreme medical emergency, heart attack or stroke, they need to revamp their emergency response for their customers
The lobby area was nice, the sitting, cafe, bar area was inviting. The hallways were very beautiful, dim, almost like you were walking by small private cottages. The rooms were very nice and elegant.

SingaporeOnly 2 laundry machines, of which 1 did not work the entire 5 days we stayed there. Staff is unfriendly and unhelpful, charged us extra for leaving the room 10 mins late. Location is very average, nothing is nearby, for anything- food or activity have to walk about 15 mins. Rooms are super tiny and nd no place to walk or open suitcase. They dont clean the room daily or provide water or towels. Hotel rooms are very dark and not enough light.

TurkeyBathroom prefabricated. Plastic walls, plastic floors. The tub was covered with a plastic curtain. We were very surprised. The room was very small. The washing machine god knows washing with only cold water even no detergent and the dryer was not drying either. The breakfast is insufficient, there is not enough serving staff. Exp: when The egg is finished, you wait 10-15 minutes for the new ones to come, orange juice runs out and it doesn't come even though it's 30 minutes before breakfast ends. etc..etc...

Malaysia1- The room was very tight with family with 2 young kids. There was barely have space to open luggage. 2- The housekeeper didn't thoroughly pick trash from our room. I have a toddler that is still on diapers. As there is no trash bin with lid to store them, the bad odor would fill-up the air whenever bathroom door was opened. There is no plastic provided for throwing extra trash too. 3- Very dark corridor.
1- Our room was on level 3 but very quiet a night which gave us peaceful sleep. 2- Professional & polite staff. 3- Within 15 minutes walking distance from Nishiki Market & Pontocho. 4- Willing to help us to freeze gel packs that I use to keep my medicine cold which was highly appreciated. 5- The hotel have policy to enable us to extend our stay until 3pm with fee. We have 10.30pm flight so that was a plus.

SloveniaWe were first given a room on the fourth floor. To our surprise, the windows were locked, impossible to open and.... frosted, although the room description clearly says the type of room we booked has a "street view". Some don't have a problem with this, but we felt like being in a submarine, not seeing outside. After asking, we were rebooked to a room in the ninth floor, where the windows were see through and could be opened to let fresh air in. So, if you don't want frosted windows, I recommend you put that under extra demands, although it's clearly offered Also, all TV channels except one are Japanese, not that that bothered us too much.
