How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The laundry facility is a little small and very busy because of that.
Convenient and comfortable. Nice decor. Second time we've stayed here. Will stay here again.

Comfortable and well laid out rooms, food at the restaurant was great. Staff were friendly and helpful. Location is good, short walk to station and a few different convenience stores.

Ask for a room that is not near the coin laundry on the 2nd floor. There are only two laundry machines for all hotel guests to use, and it is a very large hotel. So, it is in continuous use from morning though night time, and people stand around talking in the hallway as they wait for laundry machines to come available. You can easily hear them through the doors.

Our room was a little small, but workable

Closing time of the restaurant.
Very clean room, rather small but appropriate to the price we have paid. The fact that the hotel was having an laundromat was also helpful. Silence, well position location.

Laundry option and Usage time is very limited.
Great location, well connected. Our stay was amazing, onsen/ sento was nice. Breakfast was okay. Not that great. Loved the property feel, space. Staff was excellent.

The place felt fancy and worth the price. Good breakfast, bathtub. Close to the royal palace, many streets with shopping options and few attractions. In the evening there are some traditional events available in the hotel (band with a singer and a small one person show).

No storage in rooms.. Hotel is very dark in the hallways. Nice to have laundry but the dryers do not work well at all. Would have been nice to change up the breakfast from time to time.

Nothing, a really pleasant stay
Good hotel, Japanese styled and in with keeping with Kyoto vibe. Comfortable ok size room in an ambient, quiet atmosphere. Helpful staff and the bar and restaurant price and food wise are ok. The front desk staff are very helpful and efficient, case transfer no problem, taxi booking no problem. The hotel lay on extra activities as well like Sake tasting and a performance by a Meiko which was very good Hotel is situated in a good quiet area close to shops, bars and restaurants and just far enough away from the really busy tourists areas like Potoncho and Gion which are within walking distance.

Everything was spectacular at this hotel. Honestly it has been our best hotel so far in Japan. The hotel staff have helped us with bookings and shipping our luggage. Our bags even arrived in our room.

Unnecessary table and chairs in the hotel room that took up alof of room.
Amazing location! This hotel is in the heart of Kyoto but in a quiet street so it's perfect. Within walking distance to the main market and shopping strip, cafes and delicious places to eat. Great hotel service, rooms were a decent size for Japan, our suitcases were quite squished but that wasn't a problem. Hotel onsen was great to use, super clean.
