How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

The room was too small ,I felt a little claustrophobic. They didn’t clean the room for 2 days and I didn’t like the window panel.
The public bathroom was clean, cute and really nice

Great location - proximity to a lot of the areas we wanted to see. Great ambience. Staff was very accommodating especially with our family of five staying in two rooms.

Room size is on the smaller side but completely normal for Japanese hotels.
Lobby is very welcoming and nicely decorated. Staff is professional and friendly. Central location is a big plus. Perfect for Gion Festival as it is close to most events.

Should have some complimentary coffee or tea.
If you don’t want to stay center of tourist areas, this is the place you can stay. Local restaurants, bath, grocery stores and cafes are in couple of blocks.

This hotel was in a perfect location, a brief walk from the metro station so easy to get to on arrival at Kyoto station. It was close to the main shopping and eating area, and within easy walk to transport to visit the other areas. The rooms were cosy but beautifully decorated and staff were very helpful. Onsen was great. Breakfast was extra cost but very generous and varied. Nice bar and the hotel restaurant was good and frequented by locals so had a nice atmosphere. This was a great 4 star hotel. We loved the little touches like the terrariums. They held baggage before and after check out too.

Corridors too dark, too cold. Rooms also too dark, need more lighting. Bathroom fit out though clean was flimsy.
Great breakfast spread of Japanese and Western food. Handy tea/coffee set up with take away option. Reception gave maps when asked and restaurant location maps also. Convenience stores close by. Close to subway.

The smoking room was on the first floor next to the bathrooms and the bathrooms reeked of smoke. The laundry had two dryers and two washers for the whole entire hotel; we had to do laundry elsewhere.

The laundry room was very small, and the washer didn't was properly and the dry didn't give enough heat, after 90 minutes of drying clothes was still wet. The washer and dry need to be updates and additional machines are needed, 2 is just not enough for a big hotel like this. There was a line no matter the time.

The walk to the station was over 10 mins. Very hard in hot weather.
The hotel was quiet with dark lighting which made it very cozy. The breakfast was tasty and dinner menu was also very nice. The evenings we used the public bath with was very relaxing to end the day perfectly.

The japanese style in the room was superb. Very enjoyable feeling and the public bath was also very nice. Size of the room and bed was luxurious with an extra wide bed in the king size room.
