How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

Was abit far from town and quite dark in the area so didn’t feel at ease to bike at night. Thus eating out was not really an option unless you have a car, organise a taxi or eat early. By this stage of our holiday we were happy to cook each night and supermarket only 10 mins bike ride
We had an apartment within this large guest house and it felt like home away from home. Was clean, tidy and well equipped with everything we needed. Was awesome having bikes to use as nothing was “next door” but most things within a 10 min easy bike ride. Our hosts were fantastic and made us feel very welcome.

Insidey was the best! They have a huge range of boards, SUP's, wetsuits, push bikes which are all complimentary when you stay. They gave us really good recomendations of the area that made our trip heaps better. Clean comfortable and value for money. One of our Japan highlights for sure!

I do not ever write raging positive reviews like this one, but my oh my do I really recommend this hotel. Genuinely one of the best places I’ve ever stayed at in my entire life in terms of comfortability, cleanliness, and the staff that goes above and beyond. Shuka-san helps out from time to time and takamitsu-san is the owner. They are both genuinely sweet and amazing people. Shuka-san is literally THE nicest person I’ve ever met. She explains all the ins-and-outs of the hotel SO thoroughly and makes sure you feel like you are SO taken care of and even gave me some medicine when she heard I didn’t feel so good the next morning. If you have any questions, they will answer all of it whether it be online or in person in a very timely and concise manner, which I deeply appreciated. She also tries her best to speak English to those of you who cannot speak Japanese. You could also take surfing lessons with pro-surfer and owner Takamitsu-san (one of his pictures are hung up on the wall in the common area) who has a surfing regime for beginners! The room is like you’re sleeping in your own bed, very spacious and clean, as well as the rest of the facilities. It’s also walking distance from the beach. Overall HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Good restaurants in area, but taxi needed.
Clean and very well decorated with a beach/surf theme. Good cooking facilities and workspace. Close to a wide sandy beach with areas for swimming and surfing- we took a lesson with the owner who organised everything

Such an amazing and lively place. The staff were so kind and welcoming and the house is very clean, with a cool design and a lot of space. Our room was really nice, with a comfortable bed and a beautiful views of the hills. The shared spaces had tons of games, information books about the area and books to share. If I visit the Izu area again, I will definitely stay here. The place already looks cool on the images in booking, but in reallity is even cooler!

If I can make a suggestion, maybe in the room I stayed would have been better to have dark curtains. The light was so bright in the morning and didn’t let me sleep
Was just 10 minutes walk from two nice beaches. For going to Shimoda city center you have to take the bus for 3 stops. The location is perfect for relaxing.

Very nice Hostel near Tatado beach, which is excellent for surfing. My room was bigger than most hotel rooms on my journey and had a comfortable double bed, table and a large cupboard. The place is a little outside of Shimoda but a bus stops nearby and takes you to the center in 10 min. Taka is a very friendly and helpful host.

For a guest house, you have all you need : amenities, can wash your clothes ,all kitchen stuffs , you can rent bike, coffee is free. Miki, the person in charge of customers is a really nice person and she can speak both JP and EN and all key information are translated. The location: from the guest house , just walk 10 minutes and you have tatadohama beach. Really beautiful spot for people who want to learn bodyboarding or surfing. But It is also a good spot for families too.

Shinji and his friend are the best host possible ! They made my stay incredible with meeting great people, having great discussions and a very relaxing trip. The guesthouse has everything you need. It’s very clean. The bikes are available for free which makes it great to go to the beach and the restaurant. It’s surrounded by nature so very calm. Great surfing school owned by Shinji! Note that it’s self check in which also makes it easy when you arrive :)

Everything was great, only downside was the single room bed was really small (and very soft), but once the staff realised it did fit me they gave me a free upgrade to a bigger room with a double bed!
Very friendly staff, clean and new facilities, good location if you want to surf Iritahama or Tatadohama.
