Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesHotel Wood is a great place to stay in Takayama. The accommodations are comfortable and clean, staff is helpful and friendly, the location is incredible, and the amenities are very generous and fun. The complimentary happy hour sake tasting, beer, tea, and coffee in a comfortable lounge area was especially appreciated. The twin room was a decent size for a couple traveling with two large bags, not large but very comfortable.

AustraliaLoved this hotel. Perfectly positioned and close to everything the Old Town has to offer. Modern, stylish and clean hotel with very helpful staff. The large lobby space used for breakfast (excellent Japanese Bento box/ or Western choice) and communal sharing is an excellent idea. The free drinks and sake tasting every evening is such a wonderful idea. We hired a car and parking was provided as we had advised the hotel ahead of our arrival.

United StatesGreat location next to the old town. The train and bus station is a 15 minute straight shot. Everything... restaurants, snack food, sake tasting, old scenic town, souvenirs, convenience store, etc is just outside the door of the hotel. The breakfasts are good and the staff is friendly and helpful (English is spoken). There is also a convenient bath. This hotel is also a good value. The one knock I have is that the beds are super hard, to their point of uncomfortable for me.

IndonesiaPerhaps the bed could be more comfortable with more than just 1 pillow.
This is a beautiful hotel with very friendly staff. It’s located in the heart of the old town area, just a block from Sanmachi Suji, which is perfect for those staying more than one night and planning to explore the area. I initially considered a hotel closer to the station, but in the end, staying near the main attractions was much more convenient, especially since I was traveling alone for two nights as I could easily go back and forth to the hotel for a quick rest. Almost everything was great for me and the interior was spacious with a modern Japanese design. I had quite a view from my room, so during winter, I could check how cold it was outside and I got to enjoy the beautiful sight of the snow!

Switzerland- rooms not fully sound proof. Bunch of noisy Chinese and Korean tourists being very loud early in the morning in the corridor and it felt as if they were in the room with us - though the room design is pretty it’s not functional (eg sink area is in the bedroom instead of bathroom)
- really great location next to the main traditional streets of Takayama - very zen design of the rooms and hotel in generals. Room was very spacious - breakfast bentos were delicious - free sake tasting every evening - laundry machines that actually work (eg dryer dried things fairly quickly unlike the machines we had in other hotels) - very friendly and helpful staff - could park the car in the hotel

United KingdomWe were only able to stay for one night and would have loved to stay longer!
I can’t put into words how much we loved this hotel, the staff were exceptional and good at explaining everything to us in English. The lounge bar was lovely, the breakfast was a great experience for a first traditional Japanese breakfast and we had our first introduction to Onsen. The hotel is so close to Takayama Old Town and we felt it offered incredible value for the experience.

Singapore1. I think the hotel can better manage their sakae tasting sessions/timings as I do believe the hotel conducts these sessions for tourists who are not guests at the hotel too. The lounge area is fairly small and can get very crowded quite fast. 2. Breakfast is a traditional style Japanese bento set or a western set. It may lack variety for those who stay for more than 2 nights.
Staff was very friendly and polite. The rooms were very clean and spacious. Beds were comfortable too. Overall, a very pleasant 3-night stay. Decent location as it is a 15-20 min walk from Takayama station. Although this not an issue, perhaps the hotel can consider having a shuttle bus service.
