Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomIt's a little hard to tell which is the right building if you arrive in the dark (we communicated our arrival time in advance and someone came out as we were approaching in the car). I think the advertised "hot tub" is actually a bath.
Really nice to stay in Ryokan and tick it off; the building was really nice and unlike anywhere else we've stayed in Japan. The upstairs room has a balcony looking out over the forest & an en-suite. I'd recommend double stacking the mats for a comfier sleep!

United StatesThe distance is a little far from Tokyo, so expect at least an hour ride to get to anywhere. However, I enjoyed the late night-long train rides back.
Beautiful rooms that replicate old-style Japanese houses. Breakfast matches the theme with great variety. Hosts were very nice, accommodating, and understanding of the language barrier.

Hong KongBeautiful old house run by a few people. Don’t expect service . It’s just a homestay. Lovely large tatami rooms for the family. It’s basic but pleasant. Lovely house and run by some kind people who leave you alone. Breakfast is provided. Suburban area has a few places to eat and. Starbucks nearby.

CanadaWhat an amazing ryokan! Everything about the place was amazing, but what truly made the stay great was just how kind and helpful the owner was.

IrelandThere are windows along the bottom of the doors in the bedrooms so there is no privacy. I accidentally woke up other guests in the morning bc of this and we were all embarrassed. The host does warn that the mountains are cool in the evenings and he has heaters in the bedrooms. The one I had worked for a few hrs and then beeped loudly in the middle of the night turned off and it wouldn’t turn back on. In the morning I tried to shower and there was no hot water. The host was no where to be found in the morning when it was time to leave either so I couldn’t even tell him what happened. I wouldn’t advise others to stay here. I have been in Japan for 2 weeks and stayed at other traditional Japanese homes and this was nothing like the other experiences. I’m beyond disappointed that this is how I’m ending my trip in Japan. This place preys on travelers seeking an authentic stay.
The property was a beautiful place and it was clean.

AustraliaWe enjoyed our stay very much. No criticisms, although there was a small language barrier easily overcome by Google translate.
The hosts were gentle, kind and accommodating. The dinner there is wonderful, requiring a booking ahead of time. Breakfast is served upon request. The location is very relaxing, tree views and lovely noise of crickets and birdsong (be aware a few bugs such as locusts and dragonflies might visit the balcony). The balcony telescope may be used on a clear night. The rooms are large and have WiFi and air conditioning, good showers and a toilet. Beautiful (Japanese cedar?) furniture and traditional Tatami mats and futon beds. There is a washer and dryer available for guest usage. The hotel is accessible by a bus from the local train station. There are convenience stores and restaurants closeby, and great hikes such as Mount Takao, just a 45 minute journey away. I even made a trip into central Tokyo via train which took around 2 hours. All in all, Kougetsu Sanso was great value and easily the highlight of our stay in Japan. Thank you Hoshima and team! <3

CroatiaThe booking site wasnt clear - I thought I was paying for the room but when I arrived they were surprised to see that I was travelling with my partner. No meals were provided but I expected to pay another 12K yen for my partner. Only one sheet and pillow case was provided I didnt get another one for my partner.
The owner did offer to provide pick up from the station and also to take me to my restaurant reservation. He offered us some homemade plum wine when we returned in the evening.

Singaporepublic transportation to the venue took us a little while to figure out, but that's expected and just for the first trip down there. Hosts were extremely helpful with transporation aid once we got there.
My partner and I recently enjoyed a remarkable stay at this exceptional venue. The ambiance and scenic views offered here are unparalleled, creating a truly unforgettable experience. The meticulous preservation of the building's authentic charm adds a unique and historical character to the stay. Moreover, the hospitality extended to us was exceptional, meriting the highest praise. I strongly recommend this venue to those seeking a serene family retreat or a memorable gathering with friends. It's a place that deserves serious consideration for anyone looking to create lasting memories.

United StatesThe location is not the most central to Tokyo. However, if you are wanting to stay in Hachioji and have a rental car or are comfortable with the train and bus system, it is a good choice. The owner was very kind to offer us a ride to the train station on a couple of occasions. If you have the time and can manage the public transit system, don’t let it deter you from staying here.
The inn was of traditional Japanese style. We slept on futon beds on top of tatami mats. It was a wonderful way to start off our trip in Japan. It’s an experience I would highly recommend.

JapanBeautiful home, very spacious, Japanese style home and has entire bottom floor of home. Very clean, large bathroom with separate toilet. We played on going to Tokyo Sumerians and he drove us there which took an hour due to traffic and recommended art museum near by when we were leaving which he also drive is to. Would recommend staying here anytime you are staying in Hachioji. Breakfast was wonderful as well and very great value. Wish I took photo to show breakfast and beautiful home.
