Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Czech RepublicThe place offers a wide variety of Japanese food, which I definitely recommend trying! The beds are super comfortable, the staff is amazing, and in addition to public baths, there are 5 private ones (1 is a sauna) where you can go with your friends/family or when you have a tattoo.

United KingdomDinner options might not be everyone especially who does not big fan of fish but it is expected. I just Wish the price point would be cheaper so we can stay longer.
Location is great especially if you want to hit bamboo forest early morning, it’s a short 25 mins walk from the hotel, facilities from hotel are good, the bed is pretty comfy, plus you got the experience of traditional ryokan. Check out the yukata rental however I don’t think they have enough for everyone so it can be sold out in late afternoon. We tried 3 out of 5 of the private onsen, it was fun enjoyable experience and then enjoy the free ice cream + ramen + hot drinks afterwards. Also what an experience on the kaiseki dinner.

United KingdomFabulous experience - no shoes , yutakas and loungewear - the private onsens were amazing ! It was a city escape and provided us with calm after Tokyo . Free ramen at 10:30pm was a winner with our teens. 24hr Convenience store just outside and train station, every 20mins into the city . Walking distance to bamboo grove and monkey park.

ItalyStaff speaks little or no English. The place is 100% Japanese, so do not expect pancakes and French toast for breakfast. It is however very charming.
Great onsen, magical. Rooms well appointed and comfortable. Hotel located in Arashiyama, a less know area if Kyoto, well worth visiting. Unesco sites, bamboo forest, great small restaurants walking distance.

United KingdomLoved our stay here. The room whilst small was lovely. We made lots of visits to the onsen, I think it was great they were private onsens with a queue system. Perhaps one of the baths was a little on the unclean side, but they certainly seem to clean them daily and it didn't bother us too much. Generally the onsen was great, with lots of different styles, and nice to have some that were open-air. lovely option for free ice creams as well, a nice touch. We would have made use of the late night free ramen too but it wasn't clear where to go for this. But overall a lovely stay. It's just opposite the train station so incredibly convenient and staff were incredibly helpful especially with help forwarding our luggage to the next hotel. We loved that the whole hotel was mainly tatami mat flooring and that you had to take off your shoes at reception. The traditional japanese breakfast was also brilliant, so many seasonal dishes, very filling! I would wholeheartedly recommend the Sagano romantic train and Hozugawa boat trip, and Takara sushi just down the road (5 seat sushi restaurant run by the loveliest couple, who were very nice, excellent hospitality, and delicious food. They were very complimentary of our limited japanese). It's also a good place to stay for people heading to the bamboo grove, and convenient so you can go at less busy times. We also enjoyed a trip to Saihoji temple about 30-40 minutes walk away, as well as Otagi nenbutsu-ji temple to the North.

Room was huge in size relative to normal hotel room in Japan. Love the ryokan setup, which consists of 5 private onsen and also common onsen. Location is easy to reach from Kyoto Station on JR rail to Saga-Arashiyama station. The walk from this station to the resort is about 20 mins but it was an enjoyable one. The traditional Japanese dinner and breakfast were delicious and a very memorable experience.

The hotel was beautiful from the grounds to the lobby and throughout the hotel. We enjoyed our room and our private deck overlooking the cherry trees. The private onsen, restaurants, complimentary snacks and drinks were great! We also enjoyed having a spa on site for our 40 minute massages. The location was ideally located close to a river and the surrounding shops and restaurants were great! We will highly recommend this place to our friends and family! Sharon and Doug Wuerl

New ZealandThe staff didn’t speak much English. This combined with the reluctance of Japanese to say no meant we were often confused. We had a disappointing meal at the restaurant due to a waitress who couldn’t spend time explaining the complicated dishes.

ChileMore clarification when reserving if there is a meal included, we thought so but were wrong, not so much of a big deal but still a bummer. One of us didn't like the mattress.
Everything, from the room and amenities to the included freebies like ice-cream and cofee. The rooms were clean and so was the bath, the whole hotel was a no shoes one and the flooring was soo soothing while barefoot or in socks.

United StatesWe stayed at Kadensho 13 years ago and all looked very well taken care of. Very pristine. Now it looks a bit old- the wooden doors in the guest rooms have a lot of finger nail scratches and the kimonos that can be used for free. Y all guests are all faded and old. The breakfast has also changed to a set breakfast instead of a buffet. There were no other options but a Japanese breakfast with fish. It would have been nice to have other options especially for those staying for more than one night.
The location, staff, and private hot baths.

SingaporeThe inside of the rooms were abit old. Like there were scratches on the wood and all. But it could be part of the traditional architecture that’s why. No biggie. Would be nice if bottles of water were provided but there’s a store nearby that you can grab supplies from.
It’s at a very quiet location, but also very near the train station so getting in and out of the area was easy. Walking distance to the Arashiyama bamboo grove. Close to cafes and restaurants. The resort has private onsen baths with different themes. I only managed to try 2 of the themes during my stay but got a peek of the others and they all looked great! They also have a public onsen but I didn’t get to try that. The private baths are great for those who have tattoos cos you’re not allowed to use public onsens if you’re inked. They also have a lot of free stuff such as free ice cream, yakult, hot and cold beverages, ramen for supper, rental of yukatas.. we were very happy with our stay there!
