Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNothing.
Great Gyoza bar. Amazing breakfast that was a little overwhelming for our 6 year-old who isn't really into fish. Cute Festival in the lobby and such great staff who showed so much patience with our poor Japanese. Great private Onsen for our family who has many tattoos. Perfect location near the train station and the river away from Kyoto crowds but lots of options for food and fun.

Amazing stay. Room quiet and comfortable. Across the street from the train station we arrived at. Hotel was an easy walk to most of what you'd want to see in Arashiyama. Kaiseki meal was delicious. Private onsen was easy to use and so relaxing.

NetherlandsThe kimono situation was unclear whether they were rentals or came with the room.
The location was really nice, next to the arashiyama station. We really enjoyed our room it was really large, large enough for our 5 year old to spend all day inside. We also had a private onsen which the same child enjoyed. We enjoyed the Kaiseki breakfast and dinner and this introduced us to a lot of traditional Japanese food. The food was definitely the highlight.

All our activities were in Kyoto City so was worried first but we were all so glad to discover the beauty of Arashiyama, away from the city. The hotel was absolutely beautiful with authentic Japanese style, the hot tubs were fantastic, the rooms were very comfortable, and every staff were super nice. Loved the delicious noodle treat at night too.

United StatesShould provider more towel to use. One per person is not enough when you try to go many different bath in a day. Food is not as great. Not much meat.
There is 5 privates bath you can use. But it doesn’t looks like they are hot spring bath. It’s just hot water. So all the bath are pretty much the same. There is a public bath as well. Better view. Face wash provided. No shoes policy inside the hotel.

United StatesThe onsen is amazing. 5 private baths and a public bathing area with plenty of space. The free yukatas were very comfortable and the staff was very kind and helpful. The staff who don't speak English have a translator app that works quite well. You can reserve massages for extra cost that are perfect after wandering around Kyoto. The location is also great. The Arashiyama bamboo forest is about a 10 min walk from the hotel. The train station is a 1 min walk from the enterance and takes about 15-20 mins to get to central Kyoto.

United StatesWe wish we would have had more insight into what the breakfast was going to be. When we book it didn’t tell you what it was and we did get that option but ended up not eating it. We did try one day and we loved the experience of a traditional Japanese breakfast, but just wasn’t things we could eat. So just knowing would have been better.
The property was so relaxing and we loved how traditional it was

AustraliaWe were disappointed that we didn’t get the free noodles served between 10.30pm-11.30pm. The line up was huge! I’d suggest lining up early - it’s very popular. You will also be up for extra charges outside of the booking.com room charge. One charge is a local tax and the other is the hot spring tax. All up for 2 people for 1 night we were charged $7AUD, so it wasn’t a lot but just not expected. Staff spoke ‘ok’ English but locker numbers and room numbers are all in Japanese symbols.
This property is a hidden gem!! Everything about it was just luxurious!! I was hesitant to see its location was next to a train station but we never heard it (or saw it) and we had views looking out over it. Love the free Matcha/coffee station and at different times of the day they will have different freebies for you to try. Eg. Ice cream, yakult, juices, teas. The private onsens are magnificent! Make sure you spend the time checking them all out, we didn’t make it to the public ones. The whole resort has tatami flooring so no shoes while walking between room/restaurant/onsen etc. you’re instantly immersed into Japanese culture. Next you can hire a Yukata to wear around the resort (and outside if you dare) so you also look the part. Pack lightly, unless you’re venturing outside you won’t need much clothing.
