Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaPrice was high. Very strict schedule for buffet with a schedule that might be inconvenient if you checkin late. The buffet was a bit monotonous and repetitive, could use some variety for people who stay longer. In our case for two nights stay it was great.
Friendly and helpful staff. A great buffet with variety and good quality. Nice onsens with easy access until late night. Clean rooms and facilities with a retro feel. The kids also really enjoyed the pool and water slide.

AustraliaRoom had a stale smell, like faded cigarettes. We spoke to the staff and they said it was normal. After leaving doors and windows open for a day (while we were out) it dissipated a bit. TV is a bit small for the price you pay.
My partner and I were the only Westerners that we could see so did not have much interaction with others. Got a few looks. Yukatas are offered in the rooms should you want to use. We Loved the private onsen on the top floor. Was a good view over the river. Buffet was good, you get an hour time limit to have your breakfast/dinner. however the Buffet did not have any English translations for the food on offer which meant we were scanning the cards and holding up the buffet line 😂 was quiet and very close to Kinugawa Onsen Stn.

United StatesThe room had a bad smell. It smelled like cigarettes or something old and musty. The carpeting throughout the hotel is worn and dirty. Long lines at the buffet.
The kids enjoyed the pools and the onsen is nice. There’s even a game room for the kids. Good selection of food at the buffet. Friendly staff, though few spoke English.

United StatesThe room is a bit small and out dated compared to similar price hots spring hotel. The buffet food is not impressive, specially the dessert is quite a disappointment.
The service is top notch! The front desk staff speaks english well and helped us book boat ride as well. They have both indoor and outdoor swimming pool, which is a nice surprise. The outdoor pool view is amazing! The buffet has bottomless alcohol drink with good varieties, which a big plus.

SingaporeThe limit of 60 minutes to dine.
The abundant facilities include a large public bath, one level of external foot bath and another level external pools, and an indoor flow pool. it is also one of the closest establishments from Kinugawa Station where one could take a train to Nikko.

JapanThe biggest disappointment was that the room I booked has been listed as the one with the river view, but when we first arrived we received a room that didn't even face the river. They changed the room per my request, but it took around half an hour and didn't lead to the best first impression of the hotel. Considering the price paid, I hoped the stay would be more welcoming. Also, my little sister doesn't speak Japanese, and she was afraid to approach cooks during evening buffet, as some of them were speaking very loudly, when they couldn't understood what she was saying in English.
The onsen (hot springs) facilities were great: we enjoyed indoor and outdoor bathes, and the guests can also visit adjusted playing pool, which has sauna with different temperatures. I also liked welcoming drink you can have if you arrive before 4 pm. It is also close to the station, so it is easy to reach even if you do not have a car.

CanadaBe warned- private bath rooms on the 9th floor are all smoking and smell like smoke despite “deodorizing”. The rooms are also pretty outdated and could use an update, old carpet and furnishings etc. the wood used for the private baths are somewhat unkempt and could benefit from a proper scouring as mineral buildup was apparent across the private bath. The staff were not as friendly as expected with the price of the hotel. The atmosphere, at times, was strange. We would not stay again as there are many other onsen hotels for cheaper prices that are nicer.
The lobby and common areas were super nice and clean. They had clearly been renovated recently. The food was good and the buffet was huge with a ton of selection. The view from the room was incredible. The local snacks and drinks complimentary to our room were also a nice touch.

AustraliaI'm surprised that this hotel doesn't have a higher rating. Everything was excellent. It is a 5 minute walk from the station with picturesque views of the river. The room was very spacious and comfortable with nice toiletries provided. The buffet dinner is great, so much to choose from and very high quality. Facilities are amazing - plenty of indoor and outdoor onsens, two infinity pools overlooking the river plus a host of other facilities I didn't have time to use. Would love to stay here again.
