Real Bookers. Real stays. Real opinions.
Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomSome of the check in instructions were confusing. Before we arrived we were sent a map of parking spots and a location to pick up the key, but on arrival that information didn't seem accurate. We were asked to move our car and there were conflicting check in directions on the cottage door.
Yakusugi house is a great place to rest after a day of exploring Yakushima. It's a short drive from the port, supermarket and restaurants. The kitchen is well stocked and there is a washing machine and dryer. The host provided us western beds which were very comfy. We enjoyed spending our evenings under the kotatsu listening to the frogs outside.

PolandThe house was far from "perfectly clean" - most of the dishes required a thorough wash before we first used it, there was lots of dirt and dust in the corners of the floors, the trash bins where kind of nasty. But the most important things like towels, sheets, shower, toilet etc. were all clean. The clothes dryer is coin-operated and you cannot pay for less than three hours, but the drying cycles are much shorter and it turns off automatically approximately every half hour. You have to check the dryer every half hour and restart the program, which is very inconvenient since the dryer is located outside the building. This means you can’t just set your laundry to dry and go to sleep or leave the house. The kitchen seems to be well-equipped but we couldn't find any proper cutting knives (there were only butter knives), which is obviously a necessity if you actually want to use the kitchen.
The host is very nice and helpful. It was a great experience to have stayed in a traditional Japanese house. It's very conveniently located, especially if you have a car. Very quiet neighbourhood. There's lots of space in the house which is a nice change after weeks in tiny city hotel rooms. Generally well equipped - there was a pair of hiking poles, some shoe dryers, lots of local guide books which we found very useful.

NetherlandsThe kitchen had a lot of equipment. But it made it feel a bit full with stuff. The washing machine could use an upgrade. I didn't dare to use it.
A really nice traditional house. The sliding doors (shoji) and the floormats (tatami) made the place beautiful. The doors near the beds could open and there was a insect screen door. The view from those windows was amazing! A vegetable garden with green mountains further away. I was feeling like I was in a tent. It made me happy. We rented a car at Yuko rental cars. That was very good and nearby.

United StatesIt’s a bit far from the ferry terminal (about a 30-35 minute walk) and the sidewalk on the slope uphill gets slippery when it’s wet. But there is a bus that goes from the ferry terminal that stops at the high school which is a minute walk from the house, and only costs 140 yen.
It is like a home, with pretty much everything provided for you. The kitchen is particularly well-equipped. There is a kotatsu as well as a heater. There is a washer and dryer for a small fee. The TV has lots of channels and there are DVDs also, for those days when you’re stuck inside because of rain. I stayed there alone, but it could comfortably sleep 4 to 6 people. There is an A Coop grocery store about ten minutes away on foot, and they have a large selection. A steal for the price.

Very cute house with a pleasant atmosphere. Nice to experience living in an authentic Japanese house. The whole house is made of cedar, it smelled very nice. The kitchen and the pantry were fully equipped, very handy. The place had a private parking space which is very useful.

CanadaI have only one complaint, but it is a complaint I had all across Japan: The dryers are painful and expensive to use if you want to wash your clothing.
This is a beautiful home that is much more traditional than anywhere else I managed to stay in my month-long trip in Japan. It was spacious and well maintained. It also comes with its own kitchen and fridge if you do want to cook your own food. Though we had trouble communicating in both Japanese (I am far from fluent) and English, we made it through in the end :P.

IsraelDirty. Very dirty sink and kitchen countertop. and shower room, too, could be cleaned better. All the kitchen blankets, sponges, etc. were super dirty. One just needs to clean and replace it all and it will become so much better.
A house with history, it has planty of space, comfy footons and a coach, the whole house is made of Yakusugi wood. There're 2 rooms divided by rice paper sllide doors, which are super traditional and nice, but no noise isolation. It has everything you need- a kitchen, a coin washing machine (be sure to have enough 100 yen coins), parking, drying coin machine outside at the bicycle parking. There is a small garden outside where it's allowed to smoke.

AustraliaI was confused about property location to check in but think if I had known arrival time and waited at property it would have been fine. Booking.com giving instruction to check in at private residence down road seemed odd but knocked on door and then walked a few houses down to property we stayed in.
great once we worked everything out and had lots of extras such as condiments and cooking facilities and offered mineral salts to add to bath for small extra cost to enhance experience. DVDs and books fir English speakers also very thoughtful. can park off road on side of cottage. Heated Kotatsu is under coffee table also nice to warm up main room and ability to close screen so two futons each in separate rooms appreciated with adult children.
