Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Czech RepublicThe hotel is in a beautiful setting in Gora. The reception was very accommodating. The room was spacious, with a large private bathroom and a bathtub, which was perfect since it was snowing outside and around freezing. The option of a private onsen was also fantastic. The room was cozy, and the beds were comfortable. I definitely recommend staying here!

FranceWe had to book 3 days in advance for diner, but nobody told us and there is only 1 restaurant nearby. The breakfast was really average. It was a 25 min drive from the lake (or a 40 min bus ride, when there is one).
Nice rooftop terrace, pretty surroundings. Spacious bedroom but really small bathroom.

BrazilA bit far from the train station, impossible to walk, although they offer drop off and pick up at predefined times. Dinner was good, but not enough for a big appetite. For breakfast, mostly Japanese food, lacks more options for foreigners.
Nice hotel, very kind staff.

United KingdomAllocation of time slots for breakfast and dinner, breakfast variety was poor from our point of view. Dinner menu was different for group of tourist and this was disappointing as we could not select our dishes. It was already set up for us and we didn't have another option. Transportation was a problem, it was scary to think about an emergency during the night. Communication with staff was very difficult because of lack of English speakers. Only one person came to the hotel when we arrived and he could speak English but was not around during the rest of the days we stay.
The location, mountain, nature, walking around, very close to the Gora park which was our objective to visit and take the cable to view Fuji Mountain and the volcanic activity below the cable car route. We booked all dinners during our stay and it was amazing, prepared with love. Breakfast was also good.

United KingdomThere is no lift - not a major problem on arrival and departure as the staff were happy to help with baggage, but something to bear in mind if you have trouble with stairs.
This was by far the most expensive hotel we used on our tour of Japan, but the only one with half-board included, which was much appreciated - looking for restaurants nearby would have been a challenge around the steep streets, especially for people of our age. To our delight, the evening meals were 5-course affairs, a mixture of Japanese and European dishes (e.g. onion soup!), different on each of the two nights, with a good selection of reasonably priced drinks. Breakfast was a buffet, again with a mixture of Japanese and other foods. The staff were brilliant and very helpful, especially with handling our baggage. There is a courtesy shuttle to and from the station at Gora that you can use each day (though you need to book the time in advance), and this gives easy access to the Hakone cable car and ropeway.

AustraliaThe location because access to the hotel was up hill quite a way from the station with difficult terrain. There was no shuttle available before 8:30 am and after 5:00, this meant we had to walk to the station with our luggage to catch the 8am train. Taxi availability was scarce therefore in the evening we had to wait 30 minutes in very cold conditions. We had to share a taxi with another person heading in the same direction to another hotel. Would not recommend this hotel.
The room was spacious and very comfortable.

United StatesThe address ink in booking.com didn't work. It led us to a different location, quite far away from the hotel. This happened a couple times during our Japan stay. The hotel address should be available in both English and local language. If a link is used, it should use Google map that provides better guidance.

United StatesTransportation is time-consuming and inconvenient from the Gore station to the hotel. Even though the hotel provides the shuttle services, it requires a specific time to arrive and being picked up.

United KingdomFood was disappointing. Dinner was good the first night, but then the same meal was served for the next two nights. Despite many foreign guests, breakfast was 100% Japanese without any bread of any sort. Indoor onsen was a bit characterless.
Good room with very comfortable beds. Staff eager to please. Location is a long way uphill from the station, but the shuttle bus can often be arranged. Otherwise go to Naka-Gora, the third stop on the cable car, from where it is an easy walk if you don't have cases with you.

GermanyThe only not perfect thing was that the reception didn’t speak much English and we sometimes had to use a translator.
Extremely friendly and accommodating staff, nice location in the nature and modern and spacey rooms. The beds were very comfortable and we could use the Onsen bath free of charge. There were slippers and Yukata bath robes to rent for free, we felt it is a very traditional place and definitely was a unique and relaxing experience. Tje reception provides a free ride to and from Gora station that you can sign up for a day in advance.

CanadaScaffolding around the building when we stayed, but no building noise. Needs a bit of modernization.
Quiet area, away from crowds. A more traditional style of hotel- no shoes, only Japanese cuisine. The banquet meal was a great opportunity to try an authentic Japanese dining experience. Very attentive staff.
