It was a bit cold on halls and shower rooms, but not a big deal. It would be good if there was a hot water in the toilet for brushing teeth, but it was durable.

It was so cool to stay at an old school building, they put a lot of effort into maintaining the original structure of the building. I stayed in one of the bunk beds, which was really nice. It seemed more like one of the capsules in a capsule hotel almost! The staff was very kind and helpful, and it was located perfectly for the Magome-Tsumago hike (which I would highly recommend doing too by the way).

We had two beds with a curtain in the dormitory! Everything was fine, of course you should bring earplugs, someone will always snore!

Great experience to sleep in a wooden box. Very practical and toilet and shower facility wa very clean and during the night it was silent. I'm not used to such a hard matras so for me it was not that comfortable. But that's personal.

Surely the most beautiful hostel I’ve seen in Japan ! The building looks brand new, all made of wood. Everything as been renovated but they kept the school furniture to reuse it, it makes it perfect ! Dormitories are comfy, with a lot of spaces, kitchen is huge with a LOT of furniture, showers/toilets are very clean ! And it’s very close (5-10min by foot) from the Old road that lead you from Magome to Tsumago !

Separate shower facilities were on a different floor

The private room was a classroom that was very spacious.withbabundantvclosetcspace. The dormitories were basically a shared room with capsules. The kitchen was an institutional kitchen with plenty of cups and plates good selection of cheap frozen food and some ramen bowls.

A beautiful building with wood gleaming. Great facilities. The hostel pods had everything: a lamp, lock box, outlet, privacy curtain. The showers had soap, shampoo, and conditioner.

This is a great youth center and hostel. Everything is clean and comfortable. The staff are also helpful. It doesn't have any frills, but it is a great hostel. I would definitely stay here again, whether on my own, with a group, or with my family.

A bit further away from the city center. The more private room was still in the sleeping hall with others. For us no problem, but poor other guests who must have endured my partner’s snoring.

Nothing to dislike

The staff were super helpful, and went beyond their way to help me. I'm super appreciative about it. Also, location is accurate as what's shown in booking.com, apprx 10 mins walk from lower entrance from magome post town ( same place as where it meets nakasendo route. The bed is also so comfortable, and the whole school setting was really interesting to experience! Would totally recommend this place.

It's absolutely worth the stay. 10 min walk from closest bus stop. Very clean with amazing staff that helped us extensively in organising luggage transfers last minute. Kitchen and amenities were easy to use. Tea and coffee available in common room as well as quick meals to buy. Room was large and heating was perfect, there were also extra blankets if needed. Beds were comfortable. We had a great stay and would recommend staying here! Thank you so much!

We went in February and it was very cold. Be prepared with warm layers if you are travelling in the colder months, however I think this is the case for most of the older guest homes in the area.

Absolutely loved our stay. I originally booked a single night solo trip (in a mixed dorm) but upon arrival I added an extra night and upgraded to a private room so my husband could join the following day. It was too good not to share! We loved the retro atmosphere and the stunning view of the mountains from our room was a very happy surprise. The kitchen was also very well equipped to prep food in the evenings (the town was closed by 4/5 pm so having a space to cook was great).

Beautiful old renovated school, you can feel and see the history. Very good warmth, extra blankets, good pressure/hot shower with games in the common areas. Would have stayed longer if it wasn’t already fully booked.

Amazing. Everything perfect. Spacious room, super comfortable bed, amazing staff, everything clean, even the common areas. If I come to Magome again, I will definitely choose Furusato Gakkou again.
