Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United KingdomA little far from some sights but very good public transport available. If you’re sensitive bring a sleep mask because the curtains didn’t block the sunlight :)
Really homely place with super friendly staff and guests. The room was nice and clean with curtains and lockers in the beds. Comfy beds. Nice bathrooms and a stocked kitchen. You get a free drink at the bar every night which is very nice. Two very cute cats. Overall very comfortable place.

CanadaThe staff are incredible, the cats are adorable and they prepare a google maps list of all the nicest places to see and do in Osaka. Being a hostel bar you also meet really cool people. The location was extremely convenient and they even have bikes to borrow for the day if needed. This raised the bar for hostels for me. I truly cannot wait to return.

United StatesI can genuinely say that I had no complaints about this property.
Mad cat and Yoshi and Laure were wonderful hosts! Very friendly and relaxed, while also being helpful when you need it. The hostel is so cozy and comfortable, including ac in the sleeping area. The kitties were the icing on the cake. I will be staying at Mad Cat anytime I come back to Osaka.

ItalyThere are just two showers and a couple of toilets, but since there are not a lot of people it is not a problem. Overall I don't think there are negative aspects.
The hostel is kind of small but is really cozy, the staff was super nice and reliable. We had the pleasure to meet Yoshi who was a fantastic host. Since it is a small accommodation that also holds a bar, we had the opportunity to meet a lot of people who were staying there and have a drink together, so the atmosphere was almost familiar. The cats are very friendly and lovely, I loved the cat walls with all the pictures of the pets from around the world.

Just an incredible hostel in Osaka. Thank you to Yoshi and Rieko for their warmth, welcoming attitude and kindness. They make it a home. The cats are cute fluffballs. The decor is so thought out. It’s so comfortable- the beds, the pillow, good heating in the rooms. Great showers, towel and soap included. Great location - just take bus or metro everywhere. Convenience store right next door. Home away from home. Social atmosphere. Cats are awesome. They even will print out a photo of your cats to add to the wall. Plenty of recommendations for what to do when there. Rieko gave my helpful tips to get to airport easily and Yoshi didn’t hesitate for a moment to loan me his adaptor. Daily welcome drink included! Thank you for everything!!

United KingdomThis isn't a negative really, but just something for people to be aware of - the metro stops running shortly after midnight, so you will need to get a taxi/uber back if you are planning to be out late, as the location is too far to walk (and it is not legal to drink and cycle in Japan).
I had the best stay! I booked for the cats, but other the staff are amazing - shout out to Yoshi. I stayed in the women's only room - this had only 4 beds and I slept well. It was clean, comfortable and had good facilities - no wait for the showers or bathrooms, despite being fully booked. Lots of kitchen stuff is available to use, plus bathroom amenities, at no extra cost. You also get one free drink in the bar on the day of your arrival. The location is good, it is a minute's walk to FamilyMart (>5 minutes to 7-eleven) and around 10 minutes walk to two different metro stations, including for the Midosuji line to Namba/Umeda/Osaka station. You can get to Namba in 20 minutes or so from the hostel and there is no curfew. I can't wait to stay again! See you soon Maru and Kogo!

CanadaA small yet very charming and great hostel. The fact that it has fewer beds makes it much easier to make friends and talk to other guests than at bigger hostels. You get a free drink at their bar per night you stay!!

AustraliaMaru-chan and Kogo-chan are a highlight of this hostel. The staff are really friendly and helpful. The location is a little out of the way but its in a safe and quiet area which is nice. The place is incredibly clean for a hostel and has a really cozy vibe that I really loved and I would highly recommend this place.

JapanNone of the rooms had fresh air flowing through them, especially the social room. It was air-conditioned. It got quite stale with so many people in such a small space. It might've been nice to open a window to let some fresh air in.
The social area and bar were really lovely. It was nice to be able to interact with the other guests. The dorm I stayed in was also well set up. I really liked that there storage options right by my bed, so I didn't have to climb up and down the bunk to get things. And I really appreciated the curtains for privacy!
