Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeThe apartment was a little cramped but fro Tokyo, thats par for the course. The distance to the train station was a bit of a walk so dragging luggage to and from it is a little tough. The west side of ikebukuro ( where the hotel is located), is a rather adult place especially weeknights. those with young children may want to take note. The upside being a quiet area and not in the middle of the tourist/ working crowd.
Rented the apartment for 6. The property was very clean and new. For my family of 6, it accomodated us adequately. The washing facilities were good with a washer/dryer. the kitchen was rather basic and not really up to cooking dinner ( absolutely unnecessary with the great food just next to the hotel).beds were comfortable and all were tickled by the USB chargers next to eachd!

AustraliaThe location wasn’t the best. It was on the west side of IKEBUKURO and takes about 10 mins to walk. Definitely not 5 as mentioned on the website. Best to walk on the main road at night because there are quite a lot of “hotels” for adult services and drunks on the street in the little ally ways.
The property was very clean and staff were very friendly. Coincidentally laundry was also very well maintained.

SingaporeNothing.
Loved that it’s in a quieter location, and within 5-10 mins walking distance to three shopping malls with supermarkets, with easy access to many restaurants and convenience stores. Staff were also friendly and helpful. My kids loved the bunk beds in our accommodation, and I appreciated that they had a washer/dryer in our family room. There was also a spacious dining table area which easily sat six, and we had some meals within the room by buying takeout back from nearby restaurants and marts. There were two separate showers and toilets which was very convenient for my family of six. Overall the space in the family room was value for money, considering it’s in Tokyo. Ikebukuro is a very convenient location.

United StatesThe washer is a combo dryer but drying clothes in there made clothes smell bad so we just hung dry after that.
Ikebukuro is an excellent location, close to the Yamanote line, included in the JR Pass, and one of the major train stations with lots of shopping. Vegan food choices nearby also. The hotel is clean, staff friendly and our 2 bedroom space was large with two full bathrooms. Beds comfy, washer in unit was helpful for us. Drinking water from the tap was delicious. Kitchenette with all you need to cook was well supplied with grocery stores nearby. Large multiuse bottles of body soap, shampoo and conditioner as well as laundry detergent, dish soap and sponge provided. Microwave and stove, fridge and freezer all small but great to have. Instant coffee packets, teabags and sugar available in the lobby. Mattresses essentially on a platform on the ground Japanese-style, very comfortable. They happily hold your bags if you need.

SingaporeThis is a mini red light district at night when young girls holding A1 size posters advertising ¥1000-¥2400 - rather amusing for families with teenage boys. We took the chance to discuss opinions about such life styles. So it’s really not a bad point at all.
Hotel Mimaru Ikebukuro is a conveniently located modern Japanese styled hotel. There’re so many eateries nearby and it’s 7-10min walk away from the Ikebukuro station and airport limo bus stop. There’re Don Quijote, Bic Camera, etc all within 10min walking distance.

SingaporeSome parts of the surrounding area is like red light district. It’s still safe to walk around, just not comfortable for the children to see those advertisements in the shops. Plenty of restaurants around but mostly not child friendly. Not related to the property itself, but definitely a considering factor
It looks and feels new and clean. It’s very spacious for a family of 4. The dining area and kitchen are practical and made us feel home. The coin laundry area is great too. Staff are friendly and helpful, with good level of understanding in English. Hard to find such spacious hotel apartment in this very convenient location.

SingaporeI'm not sure if the stuff was racist. My elderly mother in law asked for water to take her medication at the reception. The room was not ready yet. She was rejected. The staff told her it was safe to drink from the tap in the washroom. However, she gave 2 bottles of mineral water to a Caucasian guest when he asked for it. Hmm... Mimaru was recommended by my friend - she stayed at the ueno branch, which was fantastic with a baby tub, cot, and feeding chair without asking. Perhaps I have chosen the wrong Mimaru. I would still choose Mimaru for my next trip but the Ikebukuro branch.
We like the big apartment setting.

United StatesNothing I can think of to improve upon. Very satisfied with the stay.
Perfect room for families with kids!!! This was our first Mimaru hotel stop during our Japan trip and honestly would recommend them for anyone looking for apartment style hotel stays in Japan. Everything you need for your stay is either already in the room or available for use (refrigerator, stove, microwave, etc., etc.). Ikebukuro station is a quick 5-10 min walk away with plenty of things to do in the surrounding area. Several grocery stores and convenience stores (IYKYK) within a few blocks distance. Would happily return to this location for future trips.

Hong KongThe USB charging port near to the beds are not working well.
The rooms are spacious and great for family vacation. The pantry is well equipped with supplies of detergent and kitchen paper; the table with TV monitor is surprisingly helpful when we use it for checking maps/locations and planning trips for the following days! Appreciate they offer the Japanese style of bathroom!

AustraliaIt might be worth noting that you would have to walk through the red light district from the train station to the hotel. In saying so, we felt safe and a bonus was that some restaurants opened later than usual!
The bedrooms had sufficient space for our belongings and the kitchenette had all the basics. We even had a washer/dryer which was very helpful!
