Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

AustraliaI guess a common-use kitchenette with a fridge and microwave would have been helpful but in the end not essential with the amount of good eateries in the vicinity. The stairs to the room are quite narrow, but this is typical of older Japanese buildings.
Excellent location- perfect blend of being close to slopes and village life. For this alone it is worth every cent. The accommodation is typical traditional budget ryokan with just the basics that you need. The staff were so sweet and kind. The futon were so warm and cosy and the curtains dark enough for a sleep-in. The staff brought us a hot water container and tray each morning for hot drinks. The drying rooms for gear and equipment were great. We enjoyed a few of the free onsen in the area. The wifi speed was excellent. It's a few minutes stroll to make yourself some onsen eggs for breakfast. Note: The official map of Nozawa Onsen didn't show the full path that leads to the entrance of Hanaya (not the accommodation's fault!). You can enter from the path left of Furusato Yu or via the stairs to the right of Kawazen. It's a five minute walk from the Chuo Terminal.

JapanThe host was super nice and even with a language barrier because my Japanese is not the best we were able to receive all the information we needed. The place was in a great location close to the slopes and close to food and drinks. Rooms were clean and facility was great and it’s a great find for the price in Nozawa. Plus it’s a stones throw away from a very nice onsen. We would definitely stay again.

AustraliaUsage of amenities was initially confusing. The walls were quite thin so we could hear fellow guests.
Great location, 5 min walk to Yu Road (access to Hikage Base Station ski slopes). Near plenty of places to eat. Short walk to bus terminal. Close to Furusato no Yu.

TaiwanThey didn’t have heated the common areas, also turned off the heating in the room, when we left the ryokan for the day - coming back the room was freezing. It was freezing during winter time, we could understand the reason the common areas are not heated, but the room with ski equipment it was like a sauna, super hot. We decided to cancel one day earlier, which they agreed, because it was very unpleasant to have to go to the bathroom with your ski jacket.
The location is amazing.

United StatesThe whole house smelt of old cigarette smoke. The common spaces were cluttered and not super clean. But the biggest issue with the shower. It was down in a cold dark basement and you need to ask the host to turn on the hot water for it to work. The issue is, I had no way of contacting the host to request this and I didn’t see her the entire time I was there. The check in sheet did say the shower should be hot automatically but the one shower I did take was ice cold.
The traditional tatami room was spacious and seemed clean. The beds were fine. The host was very friendly when I checked in. It’s right next to a great onesen which is what I used to shower (closed Thursday’s tho)

TaiwanThe traditional breakfast is really amazing and good. And 花宿民泊’s location is near Furusato-no-yu 麻釜温泉公園ふるさとの湯 and Yu road. For hot spring lovers, it’s very convenient. For skier to go to gondola station. Yu road will be very useful, and there is a locker can store Ski and Boots over night near gondola station which is very convenient, too.
