Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThere was a TV in the dining room. I would not turn it on without getting everyone’s approval of turning it on. We were having a wonderful meal and then two gentlemen turned it on without asking for our permission. It lessened the atmosphere Michan worked so hard on creating - not her fault though!
Hospitality was beyond amazing. Absolutely worth the trip for an authentic Japanese guesthouse stay. The food was fantastic and ambiance was so enjoyable.

GermanyEverything was actually great. Just an information maybe that the guesthouse is not very close to Nikko, so if you have a car it is the best option to spend your evenings there, otherwise it can be very tricky.
I don't know where to start. It was a gret experience to stay at Micchan and her husbands Minshuku. Micchan is extremely friendly and helpful. She greeted us with some tea and made us very comfortable during our stay. We had great dinners and breakfasts with Japanese homemade food. She served her homemade Amazake. In the mornings we had coffee in her karaoke room and she shared stories of past times. It was really an amazing experience. Also the futon beds were very comfortable :) I would definitely want to come back and visit Micchan!

Germanyeverything was perfect!
Minshuku Fukufuji was the most special treat on our journey through Japan. Micchan and her husband are the friendliest and nicest hosts ever and we honestly never had such an outstanding and unique dinner & breakfast experience before! The private onsen (very hot) is amazing as well. You‘ll get a perfect ryokan experience in the middle of the Nikko mountains, far away from noise and people. Micchan picked us up at the local bus stop (Ieyasu no sato) and she even drove us to a nearby lake for hiking. Definitely make sure that you check your train/bus connection before you make the trip, as you really don‘t wanna miss the last bus going from Kinugawa-onsen station to Ieyasu no sato. Otherwise you‘ll have to take a more expensive taxi. Arigato gozaimasu Micchan for an unforgettable experience!!

SingaporeNothing - everything was PERFECT!
If you are in Nikko, and have time after 4pm until the next morning 10am; and wouldn't mind travelling 45 mins (the minshuku does pickups at certain stations); this minshuku is a must! You will not regret it. We drove, and on the way up the hill, our car got stuck in the snow, just 300m to the minshuku. Thankfully, Micchan’s husband came to save us! Micchan husband brought us to the minshuku, and Micchan welcomed us with a delicious feast around a traditional irori hearth! There were so many delicious and interesting local dishes, including deer sashimi, black beans, peanut mochi, sake, umeshu, and soba. What’s more, they’re all made by Micchan! We ate to our heart’s content, and followed up with a nice hot onsen bath. The onsen closes at 10pm and opens again at 5am. Everything seemed like it was new and sometimes better than the quality in hotels, from the interior structure like the toilets, to the yukata in the drawers. We were surprised to find out from Micchan that the minshuku has been around for 45 years! This goes to show the attentiveness and care Micchan and her family gave to the minshuku during this 45 years - it truly is amazing. Futon beds were laid out in our rooms while we were down for dinner in the dining hall, each futon was nice, clean and soft. We had a great night’s sleep and woke up to breakfast at 7.30am. As expected, breakfast was perfect with an amazing variety of food - my personal favorite were the fish, mushroom rice and rock melon! After breakfast we had coffee at Micchan’s karaoke room, which had a nostalgic feeling from all the Polaroid photos of Micchan’s guests from ages ago. We chatted a bit with her and it was with a heavy heart that we had to leave. Micchan bade us farewell and her husband drove us back to our car. We really enjoyed staying here and would love to come back again someday. Thank you for everything, Micchan - the experience was perfect.

United KingdomNothing!! We loved it all.
From the moment we arrived we were warmly welcomed by the hosts. Rooms traditional Japanese style with tea waiting for us to enjoy before dinner. Dinner itself was spectacular and despite being unable to provide vegetarian cuisine (2 guests prefer veg/pesc) the second night Micchan made a special effort to include more plant based things. Saying that both guests tried everything the night before and loved the deer! The other guests (all Japanese) were incredibly friendly. We enjoyed chatting with them and one lady helped us with how to cook on the first night and the second night another man came to give us some Nihonshu. We enjoyed sharing our morning coffee with other guests and taking our photo with them for Micchan's wall. The drive (whichever route) to the guesthouse was absolutely stunning and the fall leaves were out of this world. We also enjoyed both onsens. I thoroughly recommend staying at this fabulous guesthouse.

GermanyYou would need an own vehicle to get there, otherwise you could be trapped… but probably the remote location is one of the reasons that makes the place special

United StatesIt was a bit far from the active part of Nikko, but the drive was nice, nonetheless. The area is a bit of a sleepy town but offered a wonderful opportunity for hiking and finding a mesmerizing bridge and dam nearby.
Above and beyond in hospitality. The hostess is the sweetest little gem. What a warm and welcoming home with delicious and plentiful food. The private onsen was quaint, inviting and just what was needed after a long day of touring the Nikko area and car ride. I cannot say enough how much we enjoyed our visit as this was our second time there. Truly a unique and wonderful Japanese experience. Absolutely worth it!
