Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

PhilippinesGreat food, ambiance and service! The private onsen was good and spacious enough for 2 people. The amenities are also great. Was not able to do the hakone loop due to bad weather but the Ryokan made the trip worth it. Will definitely come back soon

VietnamThe room is charming. Live with kimono is cool. Onsen is nice. Even with share bathroom we have our own WC and wash basin. The cats are lovely. The dinner and breakfast are ok. There is option around on foot nearby as well. Dinner is preferred than breakfast

NorwayVery nice with private onsens that didn't require reservations. Traditional japanese ryokan, a bit cold inside as the building is older but the room was kept warm

United StatesWe had a lovely time here, wish we were able to stay longer and make use of the more relaxing atmosphere at the ryokan. Especially loved the cats, private onsens, and dining inside our room. The staff were also very friendly. Last minute decided to switch up our plans from a previous itinerary and so glad that I did! Amazing value too. Would definitely recommend!!

SlovakiaMitake is etched in our hearts. The kindest staff who even learned a few words in our language. We loved the room, it was exactly what we wanted to experience in Japan. Tatami, futon, even a living area with huge windows. We played board games in the lounge, bathed in the onsen (there is also the option to use the private onsen). There is a konbini about a 5 minute walk from the accommodation. Good transport accessibility to Lake Ashi. And amazing cats! We want to come back here.

JapanNothing really. Our room faced the road, but it was still quiet at night.
Staff was very nice. We had the supper on the first night, and it was fantastic. I highly recommend it. We tried both the outside and inside private onsen, both were great. They also had some board games to play which were fun.

FranceAbsolutely wonderful. The food and facilities were great, and the rooms were even better than anticipated. The staff was very kind and accommodating. We enjoyed the private Onsen and games (we had fun doing origami for the first time in a while) I absolutely recommend going with full board for a true Japanese experience in Hakone.

United StatesHonestly, nothing. This place was surprisingly my favorite part of Hakone! The cutest cats too!
The staff was so nice! We had gotten dinner late one evening with friends and they were so worried about our return. It was really sweet of them to ask where we were.

CanadaIt was a long bus ride from the train station to the hotel. My brother tripped and scratched up his leg at the outdoor onsen because there wasn't much light outside.
Staff were friendly and spoke English which made checking in very easy. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable.

United StatesSteep stairs to go into the onsens, but that's just me because I have bad knees.
The breakfast and dinner meals that were included were wonderful. The food was so fresh and lovingly prepared. We changed into the yukatas that they supplied for dinner; this made our dinners more fun and memorable. We had a wonderful and memorable stay at Mitake; wished we were able to stay more than 2 nights. We all agreed this was one of the best parts of our trip! We will be back!

SingaporeI should have stayed another night... 😔 check out timing is at 10 am, which is the same for most ryokans here, so it was definitely too rushed to just stay for a night. Also, there are 4 cats living here, but we only saw 2 🥲
A very beautiful ryokan with very friendly staff. The entire ryokan and the room were bigger than i expected. The room was cosy and comfy, and we had a toilet to ourselves. The toilet was very cold though, as there was no heater. There's a balcony which i would recommend opening the glass doors in the daytime as the garden is beautiful too. They also have a sakura tree in the garden, which was in full bloom during our stay. The food was lovely and very filling. I would recommend opting for the halfboard to get both dinner and breakfast for the full ryokan experience. The private onsen was the best. You can head in anytime without reservations, and you don't have to worry if you have tattoos or not. There's a shower right next to the onsen, so you can shower there before going for a dip. They also provide a wide variety of yukata you can choose from in the public area, or you can simply use the one they provide in your room. Staff were very friendly, there was a grandpa (the boss) and his son, and a few other staff. His son did his best to converse with us in English, and even spoke to us in Malay and Chinese as we are from Singapore, and we were very grateful for that 😊 The cats were so adorable and were happy to get some pats. They also have a homemade gacha machine for you to gacha a Mitake cat sticker at 100 yen, really cute! Would love to come back again, and I would recommend staying for more than a night to really enjoy the place.
