Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

Owner Ito-San, his wife and daugther gave me the best experience I could be hoping for - especially as it was my first time in Japan. They speak English very well (they have lived abroad) and are happy to tell you about every detail in their superb traditional house and its garden. I was arriving tired from an overnight flight but had the most excellent sleep in the delightfully decorated and spacious tatami room. Breakfast is super delicious and time to have a chat with the owners. I also liked the location of Mokkoan in a nice residential neighborhood. You neither feel the hustle and bustle of inner city Tokyo, neither is it one of the rather faceless areas some of the business hotels are located in. Akabane station, a major transportation hub with lots of restaurants and shops around, is a comfortable 10-15 min. walk away (though Ito-San will offer to give you a ride in his car). A 10/10 stay. Thank you so much for having me stay at your wonderful house!

United StatesIt was a decent walk from the train station, but the owner was more than accommodating and willing to give us a car ride over so this didn't matter too much.
It was a very traditional Japanese house and it was incredibly enjoyable to stay somewhere that is very cultural, rather than a hotel.

ItalyOur stay at Mokkoan ryokan was definitely one of the most (of many!) exciting experiences of our trip to Japan. The kindness of Mr. Yasuhiko, Mrs.Chieko and all the staff is incredible and a very sweet cuddle. The beauty of the place is astonishing, the vibes of traditional Japanese culture are real and we were really glad to enjoy the beautiful view of their special and perfect garden. The amazing breakfast offered the opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture and we were treated with sweetness and great patience for our many curiosities. But, in reality, the real plus was the company of K-Chan, the super friendly and sweet family poodle, the real superstar of the ryokan. Our stay was incredible and we are still so grateful for all the kindness we received in return. We hope to come back very soon and enjoy the magical atmosphere of Mokkoan and the extraordinary hosts again.

ItalyWhat can i say that has not been said already about this lovely place . The owners and their assistant are extremely hospitable. They have picked us up and dropped us off various times from the nearby station. They offered tons of advice and insight when we were making decisions on what to do and we loved all the suggestions and would never have thought to go to on our own. The morning view from the room makes you feel as though youre in the middle of nature. I slept better here than anywhere inn4 weeks in Japan. The futons are almost like mattresses but so so comfy and loved the pillow. I actually travel with a pillow but ended up using theirs. When we came home after a long day they would turn on the heat for us and completely freshen up the room changing our pajamas and towels and making the bed cozy. Yuki even noticed we had paper cups for our wine and left us normal wine glasses in the room each day - very thoughtful and noticed. They give you all amenities needed as well. The station area has so many cute restaurants and all the services its only a 12/13 min walk there as well . There is also a convenience store at 3 min away open 24 hours. K Chan the sweetest puppy was waiting everyday when we came for breakfast which owners have provided kindly daily. I was really sad to be leaving and very happy to have been able to stay and meet such lovely kind people

United KingdomThe hotel is beautiful. We enjoyed relaxing on the tatami and drinking tea while looking out onto the wonderful Japanese garden. Futon beds were very comfortable. The staff were so friendly, helping us to get to and from the station, and preparing a delicious breakfast. Location is in a peaceful residential neighbourhood but close to shops and amenities.

AustraliaIt's about a 15 minute walk from the station to the accommodation. It is also a bit uphill which can be quite far especially if you have luggage. However I quite enjoyed the walk to and from the station as it's a peaceful residential area. Also, the owners offer to drop you every morning to the station which is fantastic as well.
The owners were very lovely and helpful. They made great conversation and gave fantastic suggestions on where to potentially go. I asked about Kamakura and one of the owner's drew me a whole map and gave me suggestions on the key sites around the area. They also had the cutest toy poodle called Keita, who was very affectionate. The room was beautifully maintained and their garden was also super lovely.

ThailandNot much to do nearby, but actually there is a wonderful wonderful restaurant within a 1 minute walk, the likes of which you can not find elsewhere! A restaurant of similar quality anywhere else would be easily 4-5x the price and would be crowded. There is also a nice park, and is nice if you prefer quiet.
The peaceful garden, tranquil room, and friendly owners/staff, and also Keita-chan the little doggo. I would not mind spending a week here quietly enjoying the surroundings. The room was beautiful and cozy, but spacious and comfortable. Traditional and solid. Mr. Ito, his wife, and his staff were very friendly and helpful. We were offered a ride from the airport but sadly, we accidentally missed that.

United KingdomAbsolutely nothing!
Such a friendly and helpful host. He picked us up from the station at no extra cost, did our laundry too. He was able to suggest places to eat and offered to taxi us to restaurants. It used to be their family home and has a really authentic and homely feel. Delicious breakfast cooked by his wife and assistant. Property in a quiet area but easily walkable into the town. Highly recommend.

Warm treating. Rare and valuable Japanese-style homestay. Though it is a bit far from the station, the host will pick us up in person and the environment around is tranquil.

SingaporeThe only thing I don't like is the fact that I can't stay there longer! :( definitely coming back!
I really liked everything (and I mean everything) about this place (or should I say home!). From their going out of the way to do things for you, to their amazing furry baby (k chan), there's nothing you can't love about this place. The neighbourhood is really peaceful to stay at and the house is maintained really well - we got a glimpse of the traditional way of life in Japan. P.S. I'm vegan and they were super accommodating for the breakfast and even prepared soy milk for me - so do let them know in advance if you have any dietary restrictions and you can expect this to be taken care of :)
