Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesWe had an exceptional ryokan experience with beautiful common areas and a relaxing private onsen, delicious food, and very accommodating and kind staff. It was by far the most relaxing part of our trip, and we felt extremely welcome here.

IrelandI loved the staffs accomodation, the hosts ability to cater to my needs and give me tips on what I can do with my short amount of time. The amazing onsen facilities and the overall traditional experience from the food to the yukatas are well worth the money.

FinlandPlace was cool, traditional style ryokan with lovely staff and great location. They really went to extreme to ensure that we reach the best Kinosaki-experience. I forgot my ring, noticed it in the bus station and accepted my faith. However, they had noticed my ring and rushed to the bus to bring it to me - this is an example of their heartfelt attirude towards guests

Hong KongNothing. The host and staff are very friendly. The establishment has some age but this is the beauty of a historic hot spring town. Just like all older traditional Japanese houses, the corridor and stairs can be narrow and steep. But the staffs can definitely help.
It was a roughly 10~15 minute walk from the station. It is in the middle of the hot spring town and is a great location. The staff and the owner are very friendly and welcoming. The owner is a stylish gentlemen and speaks English very well. A complimentary traditional tea ceremony is served from check-in time until 4:30pm. It is a simplified version but a legit one. If you know Japanese, feel free to talk to the lady about the tea and tea-wares. Amazing food at a decent price. I had a full crab meal that I got so stuffed that I couldn't even finish the stewed rice in the end. Food of this quality and portion can easily cost you 3 times if you get it in the city. There is a shrine dedicating to the hot spring/mountain god close by. I love to visit shrines so I am very happy that it is in such close proximity. There are two in-house hot springs- one public and one private. The public one is a MIXED BATH unless it's certain time of the day. The private one is first-come first serve. Both hot springs are very small. However, this should not be a problem as you will be given a pass when you check-in that grants access to all (at least seven) public baths in the area. Those public bath house a big and each have their own style and charm. As this hotel is very close to everything, everyone is out exploring and trying out those public hot spring houses and no one really use the one in the hotel. Overall it's an amazing experience. I highly recommend this place to those who enjoys authentic, unpretentious, old school charm.

New ZealandThat we had to leave …
Incredible experience - we loved every moment of our time here. It was our first ryokan & onsen experience, and everything exceeded expectations. The hosts were attentive & helpful, the Japanese tatami room was spacious and comfortable, and it is in the premium location in the town centre. We chose to include dinner & breakfast, and both were phenomenal. Yukata and kimono were provided, and they took great photos for us. The private onsens inside the ryokan were lovely, and a great introduction before we went to the public onsens in town. Highly recommend. Thank you!!!!

PortugalSmall and well run family onsen ryokan with in house small outdoor and cave onsens which are private in the afternoon of check in and public by gender the next morning. The top floor room named "Maple" has wonderful view of the colourful vegetation on the mountain side and small water feature at the bottom. Owner operator is very attentive and service oriented. Highly recommended!!!

United StatesThe experience was so great! The Ryokan was amazing and the owners were also extremely kind and thoughtful. From the traditional room, to the amazing Kaiseki meals, Morizuya was everything I was hoping for; I can see why it has remained a family run business for 8 generations, they obviously care about providing an excellent experience. That's not to mention the town of Kinosaki itself; wonderful atmosphere, the most amazing (and tattoo friendly Onsens) in all of Japan! 10/10, everyone should go here at least once.

United StatesNothing, it was more than we ever hoped for. Absolutely perfect!
The highlight of our Japan trip, authentic ryokan that has been run by the same family for generations. The host was so kind and welcoming, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable and truly enjoyable. The food was exceptional (we had both dinner and breakfast, we even got to try the famous crab!), the welcoming traditional tea ceremony was such a wonderful and unexpected bonus, the private onsen baths were so relaxing (especially loved one outside! amazing with January cold air). Thank you so much for having us and the photos! We will cherish the memories. This was worth every penny. If you want to experience true Japanese hospitality - Morizuya is the way to go. All four of us absolutely loved it! And it came with a day pass for all the public onsen baths of Kinosaki onsen!
