    My stay was too short🤣

Everything, Michael and his staff, especially Sarah, did everything to make my stay enjoyable! I will never thanks them enough! Nothing was too much trouble and anything i needed they were happy to help me!! On my first night, i had the all hostel for myself and Michael and his wife, allowed me to check in very very early and even stopped by in the evening to make sure i had all that i needed. As for Sarah, her main staff, she has been great to me and I wish all my staff was like her, from pointing me to the wright direction when I needed, as well as arranging my bus ticket back to Tokyo, she was awesome!! If you need to know anything while you are staying there, do not google it!! Just "Sarah it" you will get way better advices!!! From the bottom of my heart thank you so much for everything, for the price paid, i really consider it was a bargain!! Take care and hopefully see you all next year!!

Can be a bit crowded if full, but then it can become one happy community, so it's not really a bad thing.

Very clean hostel with good facilities. Michael and his wife are very welcoming and offer a wealth of information for exploring the area. Excellent location, within walking distance to two local train stations, Gekkouji, and Mt Fuji. Bus trips can be booked and start at Mt. Fuji Station for exploring the Oshino and Yamanakako areas, including the Subaru Line up the side of Mt. Fuji. Plenty of good traditional restaurants around, as well as convenience stores. The iconic Chureito Pagoda is one local train stop away.

Perhaps if traveling in a large group, having a larger table to eat around would be appreciated. However, larger tables are available in the private rooms, and the smaller tables dotted around the property are perfect for a solo travel, and for optimizing the available space.

I was looking for an affordable, central location where I could explore the Five Lakes area, and this more than fit the bill! Mr. Michael and Kazuko-san were very kind as well as willing to share their knowledge of the area and give recommendations for spots of interest. The staff went above and beyond in assisting me with some personal travel issues that arose during my time there, and I'm very grateful. Everyone was very intent on providing a clean and comfortable place to land; I sincerely appreciated and enjoyed my time there!

Absolutely neurotic vibe. I was blasted with over a dozen email notifications about messages through Booking.com as information about the property’s lack of flexibility was repeated multiple times. Hearing the owner directing staff ahead of morning cleanups kept that tone, and the walls are absolutely plastered with multilingual signage about things not to do. While I sympathize, it hinders the hospitality experience. Chill, dude. Private rooms have paper thin walls, so if there’s a snorer in the next room over, as was the case for me, you’re SOL.

Good value for a private room, public transport proximity (4m walk to Gekkouji station), walking distance to local attractions (Fujiyoshida town 5m, Chureito pagoda 25m). Helpful desk staff.

There are too many beds in the room and just a copule of bathrooms. The staff tries to do the best to keep the place clean, but with all those people it’s easy that it becomes dirty very quickly. There’s no space for backpacks in the room….the location is perfect, there’s laundry and you can have a towel for 200yen, but it’s not the most comfortable accomodation

    - not worth the price, toooooo expensive - the lady owner is a dragon, I think it hurts her tongue to say hello and thank you - there are rules EVERYWHERE, they treat you like a baby (more than 10 posters in the tiny toilet to tell you to wipe your butt, flush the toilet, close the door…) it’s annoying - no real common area, just the cheapest ikea stools in the hallway - no room for luggage in your room so everyone’s luggage and bags are everywhere on the floor - there are too many beds in the room they are like glued to each other it’s so inconvenient, they really wanted to make money - they won’t store your luggage after checkout or you have to pay (of course they love money here) nd if you stay after checkout they will charge you (even in the hallway, it is written on one of the 1000000 rules) In conclusion, for the price go to the hostels near the train station kawaguchiko :)

The place can be a bit cramped with only 2 showers and 2 sinks for the amount of guests. No one in reception after 8 so no check in available after this time (and many many other rules...)

The place was clean and the staff was very kind. Mr. Michael can be a bit rude (so if you are looking for Japanese hospitality this is not the place). The Japanese style room was cozy and we had our own fridge and microwave (showers and bathrooms were shared)

No window. Room was right next to small sitting/kitchen area, where you could hear everything and the lockers for the shared rooms are right outside. Quiet hours are midnight to 6am, but at 4am, there were people using the lockers and having loud conversations. Be aware there might not be space to store your luggage when you check out.

Cheap and clean. Short walk from train station, and not far to walk to Chureito pagoda.

The hostel is really cramped (as in there isn't even space in the room for your bags), and there is no common space other than a few stools arranged in the hallways. The staff are kind of crazy, I got almost 20 emails from them asking me the exact arrival time, which I don't know, I booked this two weeks in advance, why is it so important to know?

I can't think of anything positive to say, it was meh at best. You can technically see Mt Fuji from the windows, but you can literally see Mt. Fuji from anywhere in the area.

i booked for the weekend, checked in on saturday everything was well and on the sunday everybody around me were leaving checking out and the owner literally came into dorm and said ''well yeah, you'll be the only one who stays here today.'' and i said ''you mean the dorm?'' and he said ''no i close down the hostel today. it was right after you booked it. this is my bday today.'' etc. i said okay because i am an easygoing person and didn't know how to react but it was not very nice to let a customer know this situation on the exact day. if they let me know this first i'd not stay there on sunday. that day i tried to search for a new hostel/hotel but they were so expensive because it was a weekend and last minute and fuji area also it snowed and i was not able to go back to tokyo so i stayed there in the huge hostel facetiming all night my loved ones to not feel in danger in an area that i have no control of that i don't know at all was very very horrible. booking staff was also not able to help me. hostel owner did not even apologize or said simply sorry claiming it's a safe hostel. which was very very rude after what they put me through they ruined my whole night not sleeping and feeling anxious at all times and all the noises coming around and some guys's screams closeby in the street. they rejected my compensation whereas i did not even ask for it booking.com staff did and they rejected saying those meaningless stuff because yes it can be safe for you that you lived there for your whole life or maybe last ten years. you know it's safe but i am a tourist that doesn't know the town, any japanese and i am a girl who mostly even avoids staying alone in hotel rooms and stays in hostels to feel safe. and it was not a hotel room. it was a huge hostel which had lots of rooms and areas that i had no control of.

the ladies in the lobby seemed very nice and helpful at all times. i'd give this place a good review if the owner was not there basically. it's an old but cleaned well mainted hostel. (i suggest to stay in a ladies dorm if you are a female for avoiding guys going around in their boxers. it's not hostel's fault but i guess having no one in the reception after 8 pm also gives the customers the idea of freedom at all costs knowing the fact that they won't be in trouble whatever they do.)complimentary drinks were nice too in the lobby/common area.

We had a private room so I can’t say anything about the dorm. We had a sleepless night, you can’t rent this room as a private one. Just to be clear, the room itself is nice and the bed is cozy. But the noise and the location of the room in the hostel is a joke. People don’t care about the quiet hours from 00-06, which are very late as well. Walls are very thin and people were drying their hair in the middle of the night but the main point is that there were constantly people walking all night. In the room you hear everything, you feel the bumps of the steps and are not able to sleep at all. Quiet hours are not enforced at all. If you’re the one setting the rules in your accommodation you’re also the one responsible for enforcing them to value your guests. Doesn’t change anything that there’s nobody at reception during the night, maybe that needs to change. Additionally the room walls are so thin that you hear people snorring from the dorm. None of my hostels and other accommodations in Japan and other countries was as loud as this one, this is no way of renting a room as a private one. From scrolling through the other reviews I know that I’m not the first one having that problem.

Room quite nice, but no window.
