Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

SingaporeThe western room is heated & a bit too warm .. they brought in a fan for relief.
Very glad to have stayed here for 2 nights though without meals. All sold out and Nikko is very busy destination. This ryokan hotel is near to all the must go places . And the onsen is great after a long day out. Staff very friendly & helpful. Piano at lounge in the evening is a relaxing place to hang out . Behind the hotel there is route to kanmangafuji abyss along Daiya river and a little tea house facing the river. Simple dinner options 2-5 min walk away .

CanadaThe hotel could not provide meals because those were booked up already. There was no option to book a room that included meals on booking.com, and unfortunately it was not made clear that the restaurant could not provide any meals, even if you paid separately. Make sure to confirm this with the hotel before making a non-refundable booking. That said, there are several eateries and a Lawson’s nearby, as well as restaurants in town, so getting meals were no problem.
This is a great hotel in an excellent location. The staff were also lovely. You are near the shrines and temples and on the main bus routes towards town or towards the scenic areas. I recommend getting the all area tourist bus pass from Tobu if you plan to stay a few days. The road towards Chuzenji through the mountains is quite amazing with the sleep climbs and drops on hairpin turns. I stayed in a tatami room with futon which was huge. The baths were also great. A selection of them outdoors, and one indoors. Very relaxing after a long day hiking and sightseeing. They have a shuttle to the train station which was handy.

Thailand1. The room was hot as the air-con’s temperature cannot be adjusted. So staff decided to bring in the fan and turn it on in our room but couldn’t help that much as we’re sweating every nights. We felt a bit disappointed considering the room price. 2. The staff didn’t ask if we can eat beef, and hot pot beef was served for our dinner. My sister couldn’t eat beef so we asked if it can be changed to either fish/pork but staff told that it couldn’t be changed. My sister therefore had to eat hot pot with vegetable (that come with beef) on her 1st dinner.
Hotel’s shuttle bus is provided to/from train station which is very convenient. The staff are very helpful, and polite. Hotel is very near Nikko Heritage area just a minute walk. The room is provided all amenities you need, big room, clean with beautiful mountain view. Live piano play at the lobby at 8pm every night. We stayed 3 days and we enjoyed great experience of yummy breakfast and dinner which the menu was changed every days. We loved onsen very much and there are 4 onsen available for lady (3 outdoors and 1 indoor).

First time in Nikko, fantastic experience. Helpful staff for introducing Japanese tradition to us (foreigners), in friendly manners. Room cleaned daily, easy assess to walk along the river and around town. We speak very little Japanese but locals were so kind to us.

IndonesiaWe didn't understand how to use the water heater/dispenser in our room at first.
The Japanese style room was spacious with a view of the river. The toilet and bathroom was also clean and spacious, with a lot of amenities. The staff was very kind, immediately greeted us with tea and a snack when we arrived and explained the inn's facilities thoroughly. They also provided a written English guide for wearing yukata and using the onsen, and even gave us maps and bus timetables after we told them our plans for the next day. The onsen was quite big, and it wasn't crowded at all when we went early in the morning. We had kaiseki dinner and there were a lot of interesting dishes, the name of each dish was written in Japanese and English and explained to us by the staff. The portion was very generous, so we were very full by the end of it. Breakfast was also excellent.

AustraliaFelt incredibly pretentious, trying too hard, especially the meals. A pity we had to eat in those little boxes. The whole dining area needed a good airing. It was clean but stuffy.

Italyabsolutely nothing.
Staying here we experienced the actual meaning of "old hospitality". The building is oldish, it gives 1970s vibes, but it is very well kept. The staff is so incredibly kind that has little or no equal in western countries. Huge room with a scenic window facing the hills and the river. The kaiseki dinner is an experience to be had; probably it's worth the journey. Breakast is one of the best we had in our travels. The "ofuro" is big and clean. You can enjoy the sunrise or sunset in the open-air part.

Perfect reason to spend the night in Nikko. Hotel is just a few minutes walk from the temples. And the town is small enough to visit on foot. Onsen is wonderful, even get your own kimono to wear. After a day of sightseeing, onsen is exactly what you need.

TaiwanThe shuttle bus that should take off from the Tobu station at 5pm didn't show up.
The staffs are nice and sweet, especially the reception girl who speak fluent English. We alway received immediate assistant as soon as we need help. The public bath is awesome, they have different kinds of outdoor hot springs. The atmosphere and the facility of the public bath is good and well-maintained. The location is excellent, it only take 5 minutes to the Nikko Toshogu by walk. I will definitely consider it for my next visit to Nikko.
