Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

PortugalShower pressure wasn't very high as in other hotels, but it did the job. The room was very small.
It was a clean, comfortable room, close to the train station. The view outside the window was the best we had in Japan, looking to the mountains. The breakfast was simple but nice, and the staff was helpful and nice, too.

IsraelGreat location- super close to main station, option to store luggage if needed, free vending machine with hot drinks. Free breakfast - very basic but as it was complimentary it was not bad (an egg, bread with spread).

Czech RepublicA really nice stay at this hotel. The breakfasts were a bit simple, and since it was in the mountains with cold weather, it seemed like all the guests were sick, and the tables were super close together which was unfortunate. Some loud music or something during breakfast probably would have helped. The hotel was close enough to the main street, and the reception area was quite nice. Wifi worked well. Overall, satisfied.

IsraelNice basic hotel near the Nikko station. The staff were great. They offer complimentary breakfast, and you can also borrow umbrellas if needed. The room was basic, with okay beds. The only annoying thing was the AC, that although was turned off, made noises once in a while.

SwitzerlandLike a 10-15min walk from the station. Breakfast is always included, was also ok. Room size was also ok. be aware that all restaurants will be closed around 9. The hotel also ha a pickup in the afternoon/evening every hour at :10 and return at :00, so don't walk there like we did.

United StatesThe heating and air conditioning system runs through a vent in the ceiling and either needs replaced, reconditioned,or at the very least oil. We couldn't understand the noise coming out of it .We went down twice to the desk to inquire. Finally the attendant came up and listened to it and reassured us that every room had that noise. A couple happened to be walking down the hall while we were discussing it with the hotel employee and I asked her if her room had the noise. She said yes she couldn't sleep at all the night before. Unfortunately it woke me up 3 or 4 times each night. Nice place but I wouldn't recommend it. It is good value for money everything is quite expensive in Nikko.
Great location, free storage of your bags, morning egg and toast breakfast, great bathtub very clean. Really complete supermarket with very inexpensive sushi right behind it. It's quite a walk to the temples but it's a wonderful Street to walk on, very close to the station for hauling luggage. Good value for money as it has a nice private bathroom.

AustraliaPersonally, I found the bed a little too firm - I would have liked a bit more padding, but it was OK for the 6 nights I was there. There was a fair amount of noise from the air conditioning, which could not be turned off - I was glad I always travel with earplugs.
Pleasant helpful staff, free breakfast, microwave oven and washer/dryer available on the ground floor, fridge in room, pretty spacious room for Japan, window could be opened. Short walk to the station and the local buses, and also to a large supermarket. I would certainly stay here again.

GermanyThe pipes in the wall and the AC make some weird noise at night. But after the first night you get used to it. It's not too bad, just unusual to me at first.
The staff was very friendly. Overall, the hotel seemed very new. Everything was clean and all appliances in very good condition. The rooms are simple but have everything you need and also enough space for your luggage. I actually liked the minimal and clean look. The hotel also seemed to care about sustainability as there was less unnecessary plastic compared to usual Japanese hotels. The location was great as well and easily accessible.

AustraliaThe rooms are small, but nothing unusual for Japan.
Very handy location with the tourist transport hub and a shopping centre close by. The view from our room was amazing, looking towards the mountains. The rooms are comfortable, and it is easy to get around. Also, if you need to book Shinkasen tickets, you can do that at the JR train station. The Spacia X cockpit lounge was a great experience as well if you are traveling to Nikko from Tokyo.
