Read more– opens a dialog boxEach review score is between 1 and 10. To get the overall score you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of them. We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, or the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and other similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties, and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options might be available (by type of traveler, by score, etc...).

United StatesThe tatami room that we stayed in had a distinct smell to it. It wasn’t bad in any means, but if you’re very sensitive to smells, then you may not like it.
The property was luxurious, well kept, and accommodating in every aspect of our stay.

United KingdomI did not like the price, I understand we had dinner prepared in our room, and we had the traditional japanese room. The facility and the hotel was massive and beautiful, however next time I wouldn't take again the breakfast. The room was nice and very peculiar but just to try once I guess. There was a smell in the room like urine for some reason, not sure where was from, this smell came out when they pull out the futon beds from the closet (Gross). For one night stay was fine, but I wouldn't have stay more with that smell. I think next time I visit I will take a normal room and without meals. Then Yes I would say the price was worth it, but if you never had Kaiseki dinner in the past, I really reccomend try this one.
We liked the private spa, since I have tattooes and they are not allowed in this hotel, I did not try the natural hot spring unfortunately. They provide Yukatas, sandals and everything you need to go around and visit the public hot springs for free. I am very small person and I found my size, my partner is very tall and he also found his size, very organised place. We had the kaiseki dinner and the food was delicious, the breakfast was a massive buffet where you can find anything you want, however it's pricey for the quality of the food. The private spa is definetely worth the money, just for yourself and with amazing views and atmosphere. Kaiseki dinner was a lot of food an I had a proper fine dining experience. When we went snow crab was in season and I think I had snow crab in all different kind of cooking and preparation. Absolutely delicious, my partner is vegetarian, and this was the only place we stay in Japan they really accomodate his dietary requirements. I read some reviews before booking that the hotel is at the very end of the town and you need a shuttle to walk to the train station. I think it's up to you and what you can do, but don't be discouraged from those reviews, it's literally less than 15 mins walk, and there are plenty of shuttles to take you around. What I liked about this hotel was the luggage service, the day after they kept our luggages and send them to the information centre for free so we could visited around Kinosaki without the luggages.

United StatesThere was an issue with the room's AC that caused the heater to be turned on if used--thankfully it was still cold outside so we just left the AC off. Location is a little far from the main onsen street, but I like walking around the town and seeing the surrounding nature so it isn't really an issue for me.
Nishimuraya Hotel Shogetsutei was one of the highlights of my trip in Japan this spring. Although I wasn't able to stay very long (only 1 night), I was able to enjoy the beautiful onsen hotel and the surrounding area of Kinosaki Onsen with my friends. The room was spacious, and the futons provided were very comfortable. The kaiseki dinner was fantastic, as was the service (thank you Yamamoto-san). The buffet breakfast was also amazing--selection was wide and yet the taste was still great for everything I chose. Lastly, the onsen and sauna were simply amazing--even better than the other soto-yu around Kinosaki Onsen. I went late at night and was able to enjoy all the baths for myself!

United StatesWhen I booked I was expecting a more intimate traditional ryokan. So I was a bit surprised by the size based on the photos. But even so the rooms and the staff made it feel so cozy.
We loved our stay here! The breakfast was incredible, the Onsen was amazing, and the staff was super helpful.

We enjoyed the perfect service and the, at least for me as a foreigner, quite authentic experience. It has been perfectly clean and a great facility overall. Kinosaki Onsen is a very cute village. Book the private onsen, they are worth it! Value for money is amazing!
