We use a weighted review system, which means the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. Guests can also give separate “subscores” in crucial areas like location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value, and free Wifi. Note that guests submit their subscores and overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an accommodation that you booked through our platform if you stayed there, or if you got to the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialize in detecting fake reviews submitted to our platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team so that our fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we'd publish every review we get, positive and negative. However, we won’t display any reviews that include or refer to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out. We may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old, or if the accommodation has a change of ownership.
An accommodation can reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (e.g. language, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). You can sort and/or filter them by time of year, review score, and more.
Sometimes we show external review scores from other well-known travel websites, but make it clear when we do this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly, without limiting expression or strong opinions. They're also applicable regardless of the comment's tone.

AustraliaSatoshi (the owner) and the other staff are lovely. Satoshi in particular was incredibly helpful taking the time out of his day to help me (and other guests) ship a lot of goods from the Japan back to Australia. The hostel is small and only has I think 10 beds. So it's nice if you enjoy a quiet and friendly atmosphere. The free breakfast foods are also very appreciated, espicially after a big night out.

One of the best hostels I've been, the owner (Ash) is very receptive and helpful, the living room is very comfy and clean.

GermanyMake sure to bring warm clothes for potentially cold nights. But there are also extra blankets being provided.
NBH was wonderful. Ash is frankly on of the best and most committed hosts I’ve ever met. I’ve stayed for ten days in a row. The place is very clean, practical and thought through with great explanations everywhere. Even though the space is rather small, it has anything I could have wished for. Everything I needed was provided: fresh towels each day, any toiletry, breakfast snack, tea and even the possibility to take a bike for free. I’ve left feeling very fulfilled. The beds are big enough have their own light and little desk even. The other guests were friendly, you can socialize without being overwhelmed with too many people. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

His check-in details were great for your stay and he also went above and beyond in helping us sort some luggage logistics out. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay Ash!

PhilippinesIt's not the perfect place so I only say these things not to talk bad about the place but to keep other travelers informed on what they are getting into. Like I mentioned, the place is very small, there IS a place to leave your luggage inside the room however there is almost no place to unpack/pack or organize your stuff in the room because the space to move around there is small, so you will have to do this in the common area. The top bunk beds are very high, it's a little bit tough to get up and get down, but there's enough extra handrails to guide you (still tough, I personally found it hard to get down but maybe that's just me not being used to sleep on the top bunk). There is only one shower for everyone, it wasn't really a problem for me but just keep it in mind when you book the place. The location itself is a little far from the train station, the nearest ones which are Togoshi-Ginza Station or Togoshi Station are both about 1km away but there's a few bus stops very near the hostel which can take you directly to Gotanda Station and I found this one to be more convenient (just a little more expensive), but you could walk to Gotanda Station too if you wanted. But really these are just some of the things that I found a little inconvenient, there's still like 300 positive things about the place, these are more like nitpicks and I just want to inform other travelers to set some expectations. Overall, I would stay here again and again.
I had some doubts about the place at first but the reviews did not lie, this place is amazing! I want to start off with owner, Ash, he goes above and beyond to ensure everyone feels comfortable during their stay here, and I wish I could rate this place a 100 stars out of 10 but I can't. Now on to the place itself, it is a bit small but it is comfortable and very homey, from the beds, the common area, the toilets, the showers, etc. everything was designed with the people who are going to use it in mind and I appreciate that because you truly feel like everything is catered to make you feel as comfortable as possible. I was surprised at how spacious the bunks are (there's a table and a place where you can just put down your feet), the bed and the pillows were very comfortable, the shower, the toilets, they were all clean. There's also free snacks, breakfast, refreshments, etc., because the good service and comfortable place just wasn't enough. Also Ash and the other people at the hostel are all very friendly, I am an introvert so I try to avoid any social interactions but it was great to talk to them even for just a bit, it's interesting to know everyone's stories. Basically for every single problem or need that you think you have, Ash has an answer to it. I will definitely stay here again even I am in Tokyo!

JapanFor people who plan to be a lot closer to the main attractions, just consider that Gotanda station and the hostel location is a little out of the usual way. It was not a problem for me though! :)
I loved No Borders Hostel :) I think all the comments here will repeat how thoughtful a host Satoshi (Ash) is. I stayed only two nights but i really wish i could have stayed more. The rooms are capsule-type, and there's a chill living area which makes you feel like you're in a sharehouse. I also got to go to the nearby onsen, and Satoshi has prepared bottles of body wash and shampoo, plus a bike you can borrow. We also had a meaningful talk about Japanese education, so all in all a great trip. I'll consider this again when I'm going on a long tokyo trip.

AustraliaOnly one shower, but there was never really any problem with that. Never had to wait a turn or anything.
Best hostel I've stay in within my whole trip. Truly felt welcomed to stay in a traditional Japanese home. Everything was very organized and clean. Ash was exceptional all around. Help with all questions, guidance around town and as well as tips to travel Japan. I really enjoyed our conversations. I felt at home here. The vibe was socialable and nice to share a meal with others. There was breakfast and drinks included, which was very kind. The neighborhood was quite and you could borrow a bike to get around to the onsen or shops. Wish I had more day to stay, definitely would stay again when I return to tokyo

I started my Japan trip at this hostel and it was the best choice! Everything is clean and Ash, the host, is a very welcoming guy. He truly cares about the small details in this hostel and helped me out wherever he could. We also shared some dinner the other night and he shared some insights about Japanese culture.

AustraliaThere wasn’t anything I didn’t like.
If I could rate No Borders Hostel 11 stars, I would. It’s an excellent place to stay - so much so that I rearranged my next visit to Tokyo so I could stay here. The property itself is in a great spot, and has beautiful wooden furnishings (that smell really beautiful in the dorm room.) the host Satoshi/Ash-san works tirelessly to keep the hostel spotlessly clean, get to know every guest, and provide local knowledge and language help. His recommendations are top notch - I tried the nearby onsen and kaitenzushi, and they were both great. Satoshi/Ash-san has also cultivated an awesome community atmosphere. No Borders Hostel is just that - guests share food, stories, and a place to rest and unwind. I was initially concerned about safety when I chose to book a hostel, but this hostel is incredibly safe, and Satoshi/Ash-san provides a secure spot to keep your valuables. If you’re thinking about staying here, do it. I made so many friends and enjoyed my time here thoroughly.

I really enjoyed the stay in No borders hostel. It’s super clean and cozy. Feels like you are living in a Japanese house and I love the smells of the place and the room. The owner Satoshi said it from the wood of the bed. It just smells really nice! The bed is the most comfortable bed I’ve had and the bed sheets as well! Btw I forgot my laptop charger after i checked out and Satoshi contacted me straight away and sent it to me! I’m really appreciate that! Thank you so much to give me such a great stay and amazing hospitality.

AustraliaIt’s kinda far from the main stations but if you’re happy to walk, it’s completely fine 🙂
I loved loved staying here! Ash has put a lot of thought into every single detail in the hostel, and has left notes at most parts of the hostel which was very helpful! - There was breakfast included which was cereal or bread which was a really nice simple way to start the day! - The beds were so so comfortable - I haven’t slept until my alarm has gone off in a long time! - There’s plenty of space in the female dorm, and there was a cute little desk space where you can even put your feet down and a great security box system! It felt very personal and tiny house living-isque! - Ash also let us use his bikes which was a nice way to see and explore the neighbourhood. - Parking was really close by and for 1200 yen a day in Tokyo?? Great great price Ash was very helpful and I would highly recommend this place for anyone with a car and wanting a place away from the business of the main area of the city!
