Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaIt was very cold at night! More humidifiers would have helped, it was unfortunate as I wasn't well so the cold was especially difficult
The food and staff were exceptional. Highly recommend doing the dinner with the hotel. Food was great and staff accommodating. The old style feel was very special

AustraliaWe loved our stay, but the steps to upstairs rooms are quite steep- consider if this is appropriate when booking. A bit of a walk to the showers at the other end of the accomodation from our room, but this did not stop us having a wonderful stay.
The rooms were clean and well set out. The Tsuga room had a toilet and sink which was very convenient. Breakfast was excellent each morning, and able to cater to vegetarians well. We had a special dinner at the accomodation one night which was a great experience, I would recommend this. Unfortunately there was not a vegetarian option for this multi course meal. The staff were very friendly and accomodating and we enjoyed the complementary tea and coffee in the common room. Easy walking distance to many restaurants and shops, train station and attractions like Matsumoto Castle and a miso brewery- both of which we did a tour of during our stay. I would stay here again if I came back to Matsumoto.

United KingdomThe place was perfect. Though the building was old they had plenty of heaters to make it warm during winter. The staff were very friendly. We had booked a meal for 2 but my husband was ill from our previous stop on our trip and they kindly cancelled his meal and supplied him with plain rice (only thing he'd eat) at no cost! Meanwhile, i enjoyed the delicious meal! They were so accommodating, it was lovely. Perfect place for him to recover. Thank you

MalaysiaHad to leave the heater on throughout the night even during sleep so it won’t be cold in the morning. The dinner could have been better for the price that we paid.
Friendly staff, spoke English well. Well renovated old buildings with attention to detail. Well cooked healthy breakfast.

AustraliaNothing. My daughter probably didn’t want to share the bath facilities but this is what made the experience for me. It was lovely to have the Japanese tradition and we both appreciated the common area where we enjoyed the most delicious mandarin I have ever tasted. This place is so beautiful if you would like an authentic Japanese experience.
Beautiful healthy traditional Japanese breakfast. I loved this experience from the moment we arrived. It was a great get away from the business of Tokyo and I am so thankful that the owners have shared this place with us. I was grateful for the experience.

United KingdomNothing, it was perfect
Fantastic guest house. Everything was excellent, from the warm welcome from the staff to the room and the exception evening meal. Everywhere is super clean and well maintained. Although all the bathroom facilities are shared, these are kept incredibly clean and have everything you need. Showers and a bath available along with plenty of towels and toiletries. Even though it was really cold out, the whole facility is kept warm and cosy so it's lovely to return to. I had an exceptional evening meal with many home cooked courses, one of the best meals I've had on my many trips to Japan. Really can't fault this guest house, just brilliant, thank you!

SingaporeThere is no carpark in the premises and the closest one is about 80m away.
We are a group of 6 and stayed in the Sakura room at the attic. It is a charming property. You can tell that the owner had put a lot of thought into making the stay comfortable. All you need is readily available and near. From face towels, tissue papers, bins, portable heaters in the toilets and bathroom, electric sockets by the bedside etc. It is very clean, even the shared bathroom. There were also washing machines and a dryer for your laundry. Breakfast was included in the price and it was a good one with salmon and steamed egg with rice. Location is good too and within easy walking distance to Nawate Shopping Street, Matsumoto Castle and AEON Mall.
