Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe walls are paper thin so it really depends how loud other people are on how well you’ll be able to sleep.
The location was good and the room was comfortable. The toilets on our floor didn’t get cleaned the whole time we were there which was a bit gross.

CanadaThe dorm was dirty and extremely cluttered with everyone’s stuff and the bathroom was dirty as well. Huuuuuge lack of respect from the other guests who were making noise during the quiet hours without any consideration for those who were sleeping. Very young clientele in general, so maybe the lack of maturity and travel experience explains the low level of respect and consideration…?
Good location near the train station. I was exhausted when I arrived and I was welcomed with kindness by a smiling lady, which I really appreciated.

United KingdomFirst time I had to rent a towel. 200yen Also first time i had to make my own bed including all the bedsheets which was kind of unexpected as all the other hostels I stayed at were nice and ready for my arrival.
A bit of a far-away location, good facilities inside and a nice common area although pretty small.

United StatesThe bedsheets are kind of awkward to assemble and keep assembled. Big bags have to go in a storage room (at least for the mixed dorm) attached to the main room so you can't really keep your stuff next to your bed. One day when I went to take a shower there was just no hot water, even after running it for like 10 minutes. The dryer is really weak so they advise drying your clothes at the laundromat next door (which isn't a huge deal). None of these were significant cons but just thought I'd mention so people know what to expect.
The vibes here are simply amazing. I made so many friends among the patrons and the staff was also very friendly. Honestly one of the most social hostels I've ever stayed in, and not just in a party sense. There were plenty of people there to party but also lots of interesting people to talk to and find friends to explore the surrounding areas with. It was mostly foreigners though, in case that is a factor for anyone. The staff was a mix of foreigners and Japanese. They were very friendly and helpful if you needed anything. They were also very connected into the local expat community and I got to tag along to some smaller community things on top of the bigger hostel-organized events. It was nice to feel included in a community even if it wasn't necessarily the native Japanese community. There were hangouts all the time and one night they even taught us how to make gyoza and we made a ton right there in the hostel. The owner is Japanese and was around all the time helping lead events and outings, and just hanging around. He helped me order something off Amazon with his Prime account when I needed it fast. The beds were basic but comfortable. I was impressed that I never felt anyone else moving around in their beds or anything. They have a small kitchen where you can cook your own meals, and even a rice cooker. The location is very close to a convenience store, a supermarket, various restaurants, multiple subway stations, a Mega Don Quijote, and more. The actual street it's on is kind of run down but that probably contributes to how cheap it is. It's also a 35-ish minute walk from Dotonbori so walking home from the bars/clubs there is totally feasible if you're out late after the metro has stopped and you don't want to pay for a taxi.

United StatesThis hostel is a little far from some of the more popular places to see in Osaka, but public transit is accessible. There are no bidets on any of the toilets, something that is pretty standard in Japan [in hostels]. There's a general earthy, funky smell and the common area feels dark with no natural light. The dorm pods feel a little small, I'm a fairly small person but found myself banging into the walls a little bit accidentally when in bed and was worried about disturbing my neighbours. The dorm room has AC and feels cold temperature wise but once I got into my bed pod it felt hot. Not something that can be fixed by turning down the AC unfortunately, it's not the first time I've had this experience in a Japanese hostel and I think it has something to do with the actual kind of AC unit used and how the room is laid out/built up.
The beds were comfortable! Large powder room outside showers. Very friendly staff and volunteers. Nice social vibe. Really enjoyed the neighbourhood (more on this below), it's not in one of the "nice" parts of Osaka but it's very unique and not touristy at all with lots of inexpensive food and activities. I feel lucky to have been able to see this side of Japan.
