Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe room was a little small and damp (probably because it was raining when we were there).
Good location, a quick walk to a lot of restaurants and downtown.

GermanyThe pillows were quite hard.
The location is great, at the edge of gion, many sights and restaurants are in walking distance. The place has luggage storage and a laundry room. The room is relatively large for a Japanese hotel.

CanadaThe value for this hotel is very good considering the prime location. While I consider this hotel clean, this hotel is not luxurious or new/modern, so if that is important to you, this is not the place for you. The room itself is spacious, but there isn’t a closet or drawers for clothes. There’s 6 hooks on the wall and 4 hangers. The toilet and bathtub/shower are separated which is convenient. However, there is very little space in the bathroom to hang your clothes or place your skincare/cosmetics. An extra shelf of some sort would’ve solved this problem.
The property is located very conveniently in the Gion area and close to a subway station and bus stops. The room I booked included a double bed and single, so it could accommodate 3.

United KingdomShower area is small. Also, maybe they can consider putting something like a mesh to trap hair in the shower. I drop quite a lot of hair when washing, and by the time I finish washing my hair, the shower will become slightly clogged. I had to dig a bit down the drain hole to remove my hair before continuing with my shower.
Location is very convenient with lots of food around and quick access to major attractions. Each room has an individual wifi and the room TV is connected to the respective wifi so I was able to screen cast.

SpainTowels were not changed unless requested. The room was carpet from wall to wall and there is a slight smell to it but not a deal breaker. Also the room was kind of small so it was difficult to have the suitcases around and no closet space (but that is also somewhat normal in Japan).
The location was phenomenal, the staff very helpful. Quiet room but right in the middle of an amazing part of Kyoto. Laundry facilities were much appreciated.

BelarusThe location is great on the historic district of Gion. The room is comfortable, there was a kettle and cups. It’s possible to take some necessities like a toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo and etc. at the reception. The air conditioner helped survive the July heat.

United KingdomThe staff were so lovely and helpful. The location was brilliant, right in the middle of everything and close to the station. So helpful to have the laundry facilities. And great to have the massage service in the hotel. It was helpful with our family of 3 having the separate toilet and shower. . We would definitely stay there again.

United StatesI wish the rooms are a little bigger, but it is common to see smaller hotel rooms in Japan so it is not specific to the hotel. Overall we are happy with the stay.
Great value for the cost. Great location near many attractions and close to bus and train station. The room is clean and comfortable. The facility also has laundry machines and microwave.

IrelandMy room 201, had two windows facing the street so there was a lot of noise into the evening. Lots of cars passing through slowly with their engine noise was quite disruptive to sleeping, especially during the weekend. Worth considering if you like to sleep early. They don’t have a restaurant or offer breakfast. Room carpet felt like to needed a deep clean.
Great location right in the historic Gion Geisha district. Walking distance to a number of key sites and restaurants. Metro station across the road. Room was basic but comfortable. One of the bigger rooms during my stay in Japan. Had all the amenities I needed. Good coin laundry.

United Arab EmiratesIt’s located in a prime part of the Gion and Hagashiyama area. While it’s very affordable and extremely well situated for metro, family marts, and food and beverage joints, its prime location also means that it can be quite noisy until about midnight.
The property was clean, hygienic, very wet maintained, had extremely professional and polite staff, and great amenities, including an affordable laundromat, which the staff taught us how to operate.

FranceThe only Bad thing about this location was that when we asked for them to contact a takkyubin for baggage delivery to our next destination, they couldn't provide the service, and we struggled to do it by ourselves.
Good location in Gion, next to the Subway, buses, and convenience stores. Staff were pleasant, and the room were very confortable Wifi worked perfectly.
