Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsRelatively expensive Bit outdated design No aircon in dining / 2nd bedroom (in our type of room) (Our host was due to health reasons not able to provide the service the reviews are talking about. So we missed the atmosphere making this an attractive stay. Then the price is a bit overrated.)
Good location to explore the Geo Park Discount vouchers for the Searest Spa Excellent communication by the host Easy access to the facility (It's an AirBnB type facility with 3 rooms, not a hotel. Mind that room A and B are with shared bathroom, which is not very obviously stated in the description on Booking, but the host informed us well and we could upgrade to C with own bathroom.) (We recommend taking time to go an hour or two to the Searest spa.)

AustraliaFor the price I would expect to have better crockery and cutlery (i.e. a porcelain mug to drink from), as well as our own microwave and microwave dishes. I found the unused space interesting, there was enough space to provide more support service such as mentioned. Such extras will meet the expectations of international travellers considering that guests could be Henros and the home is quite remote.
We liked the cleanliness, spaciousness, privacy and location. The furniture was of a high quality and there was ample storage space. The area was quiet. The neighbours were very helpful and nice.

GermanyIt took a bit of shuffling around down the stairs to get to the toilet outside. But it was not a big problem, just needed a bit more coordination in the morning.
Easy checkin, cozy home, beautiful landscape. The very friendly host answered any questions immediately, and even helped me with the unfamiliar gas stove.

AustraliaI was not aware the property was unmanned until I had paid. I am in my 60s travelling solo and if I had fallen down the steep stairs from my bedroom to use the toilet in the middle of the night and injured myself no one was there to assist. The do’s and don’ts instructions in my opinion are excessive. I am a paying guest and shouldn’t be required to clean up myself for the price I paid. A message from the hosts after I arrived asking if everything was ok would have been nice. I am not saying the bed linen was not freshly washed but it did not have a freshly washed look and feel. I disliked the satin/nylon blue sheets. Freshly washed ironed cotton would have made the bed a lot more inviting. Everywhere else I have stayed in Japan has ensured the bed is looking fresh, including very reasonably priced guesthouses in rural villages. The clothes washing facilities were unavailable. However I have read other reviews saying they are excessively expensive anyway. The bathroom was dingy and uninviting. Luckily I enjoyed time at Searest spa and had a shower there, so I didn’t use the bath. It was a rather sad and lonely stay and I couldn’t wait to get on the road again.
Good proximity to geo park. Searest spa across the road.

AustraliaMy issue was that it was a ‘remote control’ ‘do it yourself’ attitude. There was no staff and the signs in the room were unfriendly. When I arrived the aircon was not on and my room felt like 40C. There was no where to eat within walking distance and even though the was a restaurant sign, the restaurant was not operational.
It was very clean and the set up was good.

Thank you very much for staying in the accommodation. The property provides every comfort for your stay, the apartment also includes a furnished private kitchen and outdoor seating area. Check-in was super easy and they have plenty of parking across the street and Kana is very helpful and kind. The owners offer dining options, both dinner and breakfast. We had dinner ordered and it was delicious. The property is located in The Muroto Global Geopark UNESCO World Heritage Site, right at the start of the Ransho Boardwalk which runs 2.6 km along the coastline, also nearby is the Kukai statue, Hotsumisakiji Temple which is the 24th temple of the Shikoku Pilgrimage, as well as the opportunity to visit the observatory and lighthouse. Nearby is also a very nice museum focused on whales. It is also possible to take a boat trip to see these cetaceans in Muroto. Highly recommended. We would like to thank once again Mrs. Kane, who was very helpful during our visit to Japan and specifically the climb to Fuji, without her help we would not have been able to complete the climb, because from Europe, without knowledge of spoken Japanese, this trek could not be booked. (New regulation 2024, necessity of accommodation on Fuji, communication only in Japanese,). Mrs. Kana had to make all the phone calls and subsequently paid for the whole trek for us and managed the communication with the travel agency until the day of our departure for the trek, everything was further complicated by the typhoon Shan -san, when it was not clear until the last moment whether the climb would take place. Her help was invaluable to us, everything was successful and we thank her once again for her help and also for the amazing sunrise experience at the top of Fuji. Tobias and Katerina

CanadaThe only option was a shared bathroom but there was a lovely tub in it. There are no restaurants nearby but the food provided was fabulous.
The food provided for dinner was fantastic and very generous but not cheap. Access to the spa across the street was nice. The accomodation was roomy, comfortable and clean. We had kitchen facilities so we could make breakfast.
