Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyBe aware that to access Sens guesthouse requires to take a bus. But, if you are open to planning your day accordingly it is no problem at all. The bus stops right at the guesthouses front door (even though it is not indicatd on Google Maps it is an official bus stop "Sen Guesthouse").
Lovely people and a very well maintained guesthouse. We stayed 3 nights in Sen's and loved everything about it. Nice chill area in the house and beautiful views from its balcony and in hammocks on the beach. The owners welcomed us very friendly and suggested the best things to do on the island according to our time schedule. We ended up doing all the things suggested and regreted not a single one of them. Shared kitchen and bathroom were very clean. Lastly, I highly recommend to figure out how to rent a bicycle since this will provide you some more freedom to explore the island. Hope you enjoy as much as we did.

SingaporeThe bus schedule is limited and ends early. So have to watch out.
Had an amazing stay at Sen Guesthouse. The place was super clean and beautifully decorated. Love the view of the sea. I was a little apprehensive about the steep steps but it was manageable and the hosts helped me with the luggage. I was able to prepare meals in the fully equipped kitchen. Mathew San gave me great information for my ongoing trip. Thank you Nori San for the sweater! Hope to come back again!

MacaoNeed to take luggage and walk up to mid hill where the accommodation is located. No convenient stores in walking distance.
The environment is clean and cozy. Nice and helpful staff. The owner is an American, communication in English without a problem. Breakfast in both Japanese and western style was delicious! Free parking.

AustraliaBoth being quite introverted and travel weary we found being in a shared accommodation a little awkward as it’s not something we’d normally choose, that being said everyone was friendly and interesting to talk to so I’m glad we tried something different.
Location was beautiful and peaceful. Staff were warm and amazingly helpful. Room was simple but provided everything we needed and the beds were very comfortable.

JapanSen Guesthouse is a beautiful property with brilliant hosts. The private beach is a great place to lounge on a sunny day (with hammocks provided). There’s great views of kankakei mountain and the bay in front. The common area is clean and great to relax in, as well as the tatami living room accompanying it. All round a brilliant place to stay that I would highly recommend. Also, make sure you get the breakfast, it’s delicious.

SwitzerlandThis is not a criticism to the guesthouse but just to highlight the situation of the transportation on the island: There is a network of bus lines in Shodoshima that runs infrequently. As explained in the guesthouse description, the bus that goes to the guesthouse is only 4 times a day from Tonosho Port, also leaving from the guesthouse is 4 or 5 times a day. If you are arriving from other ports, then you must check the connection carefully and it could be that you may need to wait a long time for the connecting bus. Therefore, unless you have a car during your stay in Shodoshima, please pay attention to the bus schedule and plan your day carefully.
The guesthouse is managed by a very friendly family whose friendliness is well reflected in the cozy atmosphere. The house provided everything needed for my stay in Shodoshima: clean bed, shower, kitchen, laundry facility, view to the sea with beautiful sunset in the evening. There is a private beach down the stairs from the guesthouse.

AustriaThis place is perfect if you're seeking peace and quiet to unwind. While the remote location may not be for everyone, with some planning, you can use the bus to explore and sightsee. Nuri and Matt's dedication to creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere at the guesthouse shines through in every little detail. Thank you so much for your help and hospitality. I enjoyed it so much!

It is a wonderful guesthouse managed by a couple who owns the house and who take care of their guests. They know very well the island and can make great recommendations. The kitchen is great to use with everything that you need, including roasted ground coffee by the owner. You easily feel at home. And moreover the view on the sea is amazing and you have access to a beach.

JapanThe location of the guesthouse is a little remote and the bus runs only rarely. This requires a little bit of careful advanced planning if you don't have a car, but it did turn out to be much simpler than I expected, so overall it was not such a big deal.
Sen Guesthouse is located in a beautiful and peaceful location on Shodoshima, with a gorgeous view overlooking the bay and mountains on the far side. Upon entering our room and opening the window, we were greeting by a refreshing cool breeze coming off the water and the sounds of birds chattering in the forested hills around us. Our stay here was incredibly relaxing and they had everything we could possibly want. Fantastic!

GermanyRemote hostel a little uphill in a beautiful bay. A cozy bayside area with hammocks - feel free to swim there. Super cozy living room. Patio with a nice view. Very, very clean and tidy place. Warm and committed owner - helping you perfectly if you need any suggestions. A few buses going from and there every day. Larger supermarket in the town nearby. A few food and drink options as well as breakfast purchasable in the hostel. Rarely stayed in such a good place.

JapanNothing. As a side note, as they state clearly on the page, this place has very limited public transportation. We biked there on the way, and it was doable with the e-bike you can rent at Sakate Port. But there is almost nobody on the way, and it will be pitch dark after sunset, so I recommend taxiing there. It was about 1500 yen for us from the port.
I rarely write reviews but I do this time, as this guest house was fantastic! I stayed with my friends, enjoyed their lovely private beach by ourselves, and had a great time chatting in the cozy living room and the balcony, surrounded by beautiful nature. The craft beer the owner brewed in collaboration with the local brewery Mame Mame beer was excellent and I was so excited as a huge craft beer fan! The owners were friendly, professional and knew everything about the island. Talking with them made me want to return to Shodoshima again soon.
