The language used in their email communications with us was not in keeping with what actually happened when we arrived. Most of the emails we received used language that was very stern and authoritarian e.g. you must provide a copy of your passport before you arrive or we will cancel your booking. Not necessary especially when we had fully paid for our stay. Thankfully, the Hosts were extremely welcoming and understanding.

The Hosts were very friendly, very helpful and provided us with transport to the Station with plenty of information about places to see and things to do. We felt very welcome.

Elizabeth and Satoshi are excellent hosts. Elizabeth is very welcoming and gave us a lot of tips on what to discover in and around Nikko, also they drove us to the Shrine and the train station, which was very nice. The private onsen is great.

I can’t think of anything I disliked.

I really enjoyed my stay at the Gableview Inn. The room was very spacious. It was equipped with everything you would need to be comfortable, The hosts made sure I had perfect directions to the places I was visiting. This was extremely helpful. I appreciated their kindness in giving me a ride daily to the places I visited since their inn wasn’t in the downtown area. I chose to have breakfast there. Everything that was prepared was delicious

This is not a complaint, merely a suggestion from 2 of the older people in our group. Since the wonderful dinner that Satoshi cooks all by himself has so many courses, it might be nice to have the explanations written out on a little card for each diner. That way, everything stays nice and hot :)

This was our second time staying at the inn. Of course, the owners, Satoshi and Elizabeth remembered us and were just as friendly and helpful as our first visit 2 years ago. Satoshi remembered that we weren’t able to find a soba restaurant open on New Year’s day the first time and did research to find one for us. I was so touched by his kindness. There is a new lovely shared bathroom and many new interior design pieces. I’m still in love with the open air bath that can be reserved. It’s such a relaxing, friendly inn with lovely owners. I highly recommend it.

The hosts are both amazing!! Very friendly and eager to help us with everything we needed. We had not chosen to have diner there (bad decision because I believe it must have been amazing) and they suggested to make a reservation for us at an excellent restaurant nearby. The breakfast was served in a very cosy and homey feeling living room and it was a classical western style with eggs, bagels etc which was exceptional! I have nothing but wonderful words to say about this experience. Totally recommended! I would like to revisit and spend more time there. Thank you for everything

The property was in a great location for accessing the sights of Nikko.The owners were warm and welcoming.The food was great (especially the mashed potatoes!) and we made use of the outdoor onsen bath on the night of our stay and the following morning.

Place is in a forested area so it can be challenging if you don’t have a car.

Lovely breakfast with bagels, cream cheese and jams. Fried eggs and sausages. Fresh fruit, juice and coffee. We felt so well taken care of by Liz and Sazuke. They are knowledgeable and gave us wonderful suggestions about what we could see in Nikko.

The location was a little difficult to access without a car, but the owners drove us into the city which was a big help!

My partner and I went and stayed at the Gableview Forest Inn for our honeymoon and it was spectacular. The hosts were so welcoming, warm and accomodating. My partner who is coeliac was even catered to for his diatry requirments and was provided gluten-free breakfast and dinner. We don't have a single bad thing to say about our stay. The hosts even drove us to town each day and made recommendations of all the most exciting and beautiful things to do and see. Best holiday in the mountains ever!

Great accomodation with onsens close to Nikko National Park. The couple running it are the nicest people and will go out their way to make sure your stay is perfect. The food is exceptional and dinner is a feast well worth staying for.

Stayed two nights in two different rooms. We particularly enjoyed the room with a lounge area. There is a beautiful view from the dining room. The meals were great value and top class, especially the seafood meal. Quality wines and sake to purchase too, which we really appreciated. It is a small place so you get to chat to other guests We also enjoyed the outdoor onsen.
