A magical stay in Nikko with stunning snowy lake view (April)

Our stay in Nikko was nothing short of magical. Nestled by the lake, the hotel offered breathtaking views, made even more special by an unexpected snowfall in April. Watching the snow gently fall over the water was an unforgettable experience. The highlight of our stay was undoubtedly the onsen. Both the indoor and outdoor baths were spectacular. The outdoor onsen, in particular, was surreal—soaking in the warm, mineral-rich waters while surrounded by snow-covered scenery felt like a dream. The indoor onsen was equally relaxing, offering a serene retreat. We also loved the traditional Japanese experience of sleeping on tatami floors. The futons were incredibly comfortable, and we had a great night’s sleep, waking up refreshed to the serene lake views. The peaceful atmosphere, stunning views, and rejuvenating hot springs made this stay truly special. If you're looking for a tranquil escape in Nikko, this place is perfect! Note: it is best to rent a car!

We loved the view from our room and location ( walking distance to the Kegon waterfall). Guests lounge eas beautiful, staff was very helpful. Onsen , especially outdoors, was amazing . Excellent food and free drinks, which helped us a lot in cold weather.

The location has a nice view at the lake. Nd offers a good start for hiking. Yeti without car of your own, you are dependent of the bus to go into the moutains or down to Nikko, and the bus does not go that often and stops early, at six! Which is the more a pity because most restaurants in the neighbourhood are closed (end of march).

Nice, cosy, perfect lounge. And good diner ( although unclear how to book: both maken reservation in app and at pay at reception desk).

I booked a room which had a very traditional Window area in the Japanese style. With a view overlooking the lake. I was very happy with my room and for the price it was just about right. I went half board and I was delighted by the evening meal And was reasonably happy with the morning breakfast although it could’ve been a little bit bigger. Overall a happy experience. I didn’t experience the Onsen on this occasion so I can’t comment there.

I did not always find it foreigner friendly. I am learning to speak Japanese and am very open to learning the rules of a hotel, but it's hard to do when no one tells you what they are...

The facilities and location were amazing.

Could get a little loud during busy hours in shared spaces, lots of kids running around. The shuttle bus was apparently full, so unable to reserve. Bus ride from Nikko station takes about 45min, not great if you get carsick. WiFi was odd as you needed to reconnect to different ones depending on which floor you were on, slower speeds during busy hours.

Onsen was the highlight. Both indoor and outdoor baths were lovely. Stayed in dorm style rooms, surprisingly comfortable pods but bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Lake was beautiful, close walk to see kegon falls (15min). Complementary drinks were nice in the afternoon. Did not eat at the hotel, some eateries and cafes in walking distance, but be aware of opening hours.

We didn't get the dinner at the hotel and in the evening, there were no other restaurants open at all and there's not a convenience store anywhere near the hotel.

The capsule hotel was nice and the location was perfect. Both the indoors and the outdoors onsen were amazing!

There were no security, the dorm room had one toilet for women, the sink in the toilet was broken (you can still use it but the handle came off) There was a fridge and a microwave but no utensils. There were no storage area for luggage but you can put it on the walk way. I lost one ear plug, big mistake as you can hear people snoring.

The hot spring was lovely, the lake view was lovely! The drink bar was great! The capsules once in was good enough for sleeping. Must bring ear plugs

It’s more about the surrounding, there’s no single convenience store or place to have dinner after 16:00 because everything closing. Besides that, everything was perfect.

Very peaceful atmosphere around, rooms are clean and cosy, view from window is great. Nice welcome drinks in common room and absolutely wonderful onsen.

The interior is a little old, but still functional.

As soon as I walked in, the receptionist welcomed me very friendly and helped me check in through the tablet. In the community space were free drinks like coffee, tea, softdrinks, juices and a cocktailbar where you could mix drinks by yourself. Also a really nice place to relax and from there you could access the onsen, which also had an outdoor bath. Since I stayed only for a night on a weekday in December, there weren't a lot of guests, so it was very relaxing.

The last bus from Nikko station to the hotel is around 6.05 pm. So please be careful if you want to travel around Nikko station at night.

Meals in the hotel are strictly by reservation, and dinner on that day can only be booked until 4 PM. There's little to no restaurants open past 5 PM in Nikko (some are still open until 6 PM if you're lucky) and the closest one near this hotel is quite a distance away (plus in the dark, freezing cold, with long waiting list) so be prepared. Maybe because it's the same plumbing for indoor and outdoor onsen, but the indoor bath was too boiling hot, so no one could use it. And while the outdoor bath was just the right temperature, the weather was too cold for the non-submerged body parts. As others have mentioned, it's pretty costly for an ordinary meal. Breakfast-time-window was quite short too. Self-service, self-check-in, self-check-out.

Since I was traveling to western Nikko the next day this place is very strategic to end the day from downtown Nikko. The dorm was comfortable enough and everyone was obliging to keep the room quiet (except for that one guy whose alarm went off for half an hour at 6 AM and pissed everyone off lol). Clean and tidy, though you made your own bed. Yukata and toiletries provided at the lobby. There are complimentary drinks bar, board game room, and hearth for socializing. Onsen has good privacy and adequate facilities.

Make sure to book the meals in advance, especially as for dinner a lot of restaurants are closed in the evening. The immediate surrounding area is really nice but recommend getting a rented car for other areas in Nikko as the bus is a bit less reliable and infrequent as it could be (and can get very crowded).

Really nice service, amenities and a good room, the food was also really lovely. The onsen was also great and the view of the lake fantastic!
