Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNothing. We read reviews saying it got cold at night but when we went the heaters worked a treat and we didn’t feel the cold a single bit.
Venue is beautiful. Staff are wonderfully welcoming and friendly. The dinner and breakfast was beautiful, everything from the presentation to the taste, it was truly beautiful and my favourite moment out of a whole 2 weeks travelling around Japan. You will not regret booking this place.

Romania-Maybe please put a piece of paper near the food sets to explain what we are eating ; some foods were explained, some not. However all if it was very good -very cold in the rooms during spring, although we receive a heater and the A/C works on heating mode. Maybe consider a bigger capacity heater
Great location Really nice rooms Great vegetarian food Very friendly staff Rooms are traditional but with some modern twists

SingaporeThe only feedback we have: please remember to top up the fuel for the burners in the room. If it runs out in the middle of the night during winter, the room can get freezing cold.
Stunningly gorgeous property. The pictures don’t do it justice. Very high quality fittings and thoughtful design elements. Service from the mints was top notched - as if run by one of the luxury hotel brands. The kaiseki dinners bring joy to vegetarian cuisine!

AustriaThe heating turns off sometime at night making the room really cold, especially in winter. But we know about this especially when staying at traditional accommodations.
The room was perfect for us as a couple. We opted for a room with bath and it has an automatic function that fills up the bathtub, in time for a relaxing soak. We can also take a bath anytime we want, as opposed to the rooms with shared baths. The room is also spacious and the monks/staff were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay. They provided detailed instructions on the stay, like for the morning prayer, they will knock and guide you to the prayer area/temple. The morning service was naturally in Japanese and we appreciate that there is an English translation and guide how to conduct oneself during the ceremony. Most importantly, the vegetarian dinner and breakfast were phenomenal. The best vegetarian meals we've had for a while. So definitely recommended! We would stay there again.

United StatesFutons were not very comfortable unless you doubled them up
The incredibly beautiful meals served in a private room. Morning prayer. And especially the fire ceremony they do every 28th of the month. Very special opportunity. I was told by someone from Japan this is one of the few authentic ones in town. It was almost 2 hours long. The gardens were beautiful with fall colors. The rooms with private bath were definitely the way to go. Could soak and enjoy the yes lit up outside. Not just a small garden outside the window.

MalaysiaWe would have loved to interact with the monks more. Because of that, we felt a bit too much like tourists, outsiders in the place, whereas if you come here, it's mostly to experience their way of living.
We loved our stay at Fudo in. The dinner, ceremony, public bath all contributed to a great experience! Highly recommend. It is also well located in Koyasan.

Parking right in front, very clean and the food vegetarian food was wonderful. The temple itself is beautiful, and I highly recommend the morning prayer service which is partially in English. There was a female monk that chanted beautifully! Make sure you check in as early as possible to get the full experience.

CanadaThe walls are very thin (just the nature of construction) so tourists/guests need to understand that they need to be courteous and quiet as adjacent rooms can hear them.
If you're venturing all the way to Koyasan, then complete the experience and immerse yourself in this memorable shukubo experience. The staff and monks are genuine and courteous. The lodging facilities are comfortable and refined with nice touches and attention to detail. The food, although vegetarian, is exquisite - amazing flavors and textures that will satisfy. Alcohol is also available at extra cost. The morning prayer service and sutra recitation is guided as is the Ajikan meditation session which follows. Fudo-in seems smaller than some other lodging venues, which makes it more attractive and quieter. Location is perfect for bus stop #8.

I think it’s the best place we’ve ever stayed in, though we did upgrade to a junior suite with bathroom facility. The staff were charming, the food was amazing and the morning temple service was calming and inspiring and involved the guests. It’s a quiet temple set back from the road close to no 8 bus stop and near the cemetery walk through the huge cedars to the temple at the end. Gardens there were beautiful. Served alcohol, too.

NetherlandsAs few things in Japan, this is quite touristic. I thought the morning prayer were just for us a way to witness the local monks doing their prayer. Instead, it felt a little like a touristic attractions.
This is exactly what you imagine. A true Japanese traditional experience in a temple. From the night in the temple to the dinner with yukatas. A must do
