Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

NetherlandsBeautiful traditional ryokan with a rich history, yet modern enough te be comfortable with all facilities you’d need. Staff was very friendly and proactive; we received an upgraded room and thet were very accommodating to my pregnant wife and my 1.5 year old daughter. Highly recommended.

United StatesExcellent all-around. The property itself is quaint, not overly fancy (especially in the hallways), but not dingy in any way. Not many facilities besides the baths, rooms, and restaurant, but it doesn’t quite need any, either. We brought our own entertainment from the outside, and if you don’t have any, you can just take the shuttle down into the city. Our stay included meals in our room. Breakfasts were Japanese style with many small dishes on one tray (including both western dishes like yogurt and eggs and Japanese dishes like fish and miso soup), and it was a nice, filling-but-not-too-full start to the day. Dinners were one night of kaiseki (various dishes brought out one-by-one), and one night of sukiyaki, and both were incredible in both presentation and taste. The staff member who helped us, Yoichiro-san, was wonderful company. In addition to excellent service, he was just a very chill guy, pleasant conversationalist and good sense of humor. I also suspect even if we didn’t speak Japanese he would have still been able to help us just fine. The rooms were spacious enough, just enough room for four futons to fit side-by-side, which was great for our group and would likely be even better for 3 or less people. The baths were refreshing; perfect temp and no more than a few minutes to get to each one. One indoor public bath (looks like it seats up to 8 or 9 without squishing), one outdoor public path of similar-ish size, and our room had a one-person private bath as well. The shuttle to and from the ryokan was very good for us; not having to deal with local bus lines and being able to get there easily was worth only having the one departure time in the morning/afternoon that we had to plan around. The yukata offered for us to wear in the ryokan were comfortable. The gowns came in sizes even the tallest and largest of us could wear. The obi belt didn’t have variable size, though, but that’s quite minor by comparison.

United KingdomThe outdoor onsen was closed Saturday morning - and the signs sharing that were only in Japanese so we were unable to use them.
Food was spectacular - all the courses were delicious. The Onsen was also very nice and well maintained. Also, the shuttles were very easy and the staff were very friendly and helpful.

IsraelThe pillows were somewhat uncomfortable (maybe a general side effect of traditional beds).
The staff, facilities and meals were great. One of us is a vegetarian and they accommodated us excellently. They took out meat, fish and seafood wherever possible, replacing it with vegetables or tofu - keeping almost all of the many diverse dishes.

United StatesEven though we had a "private" room for meals, we could still hear other groups. They all sounded very happy. That was a good thing. There is nothing worse than staying at a location where the other visitors are loud, drunk, and obnoxious. These people were just having a good time.

RussiaThe outdoor onsens were closed in the morning of our stay. The weather was very cold during our stay and it was freezing in the part of the room where there wasn't heating with air conditioning, so we couldn't stay outside our room for long. We tried to sleep without heating at night but it was uncomfortable due to big temperature difference under the thick blankets and in the room air.
Super friendly and welcoming staff, we were able to communicate even though not all of them spoke English. Authentic atmosphere, very nice territory and quiet nature, perfect time to enjoy silence and peace. Comfortable and punctual shuttle service. Wonderful dinner experience, it was great to have English description for all the dishes we ate. Beautiful onsens, it's a pity people with tattoos aren't allowed into public ones, but at least there is a possibility of visiting private outdoor and indoor onsens.

United StatesWe only stayed one night…. Definitely need 2 nights here.
The room was spacious but still felt cozy and comfortable. The view from the large window was simply spectacular, there was a light rain storm the night we came and honestly it added to the experience, so relaxing….the staff was so friendly, some spoke very clear English but for the ones that didn’t had a little translation devise. I’m also a Celiac and can’t eat wheat, I gave the staff a head up and they accommodated my meals beautifully! I was able to enjoy the dinner and breakfast with my family without feeling like I was missing something.

The semi-outdoor hotspring bath inside the hotel room was superb. The room was very comfortable, spacious, clean, and quiet, with nice decor. The room overlooked a beautiful garden. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast were served in the room and were very delicious. The hotel staff provided excellent, warm and personalised service. The hotel was located a distance away from downtown Himeji, near a forested area with beautiful scenery. Free shuttle bus service was available. This hotel was a perfect place to relax and rejuvenate the body, mind and soul. Our experience was wonderful.
