We had a happy hour at the bar. Beautiful cocktails and cheese board with a lovely view looking out over Kyoto. Breakfast was amazing as well.

The breakfast was superb. The eggs Benedict and the French toast were exceptional. The Shops on site were great and a great location. Our room was very comfortable and the staff were friendly. Staying at The Gate enhanced our Kyoto stay.

If there were anything, it would be the 3080 yen required to move your checkout from 11am to 1pm. In our case we did not take this option as the hotel was fully booked and the same fee was requested for a 12pm checkout.

Flawless experience with this hotel. Everything from the rooms, the staff, the location, the bar and restaurant. A 4 star hotel that would rival many 5 star hotels would be our assessment.

The breakfast was good and they were able to accommodate a gluten allergy. The evening reception on the 7th floor was very nice with a firepit outside, although when we were there it was quite warm and didn't really need a fire. The view from the breakfast room was really nice with the sunrise.

Amazing location and great view over the city. Breakfast was superb and the all hotel staff are great. Rooms are in very good size in Japan standard and the bed was very comfortable. We stayed for 4 nights and it was one of the great experience from Kyoto.

Fitness center does not offer any weights or equipment for strength training. There are a few treadmills and cardio equipment.

Breakfast was good, with many options in the buffet and in the menu. Location is probably the highest point about this hotel. It is close to the restaurants, shopping area and a few train stations. There is a nice big area with artificial grass in front of the property where many people stay - mostly teenage students.

Location was great! There are so many restaurants and things within walking distance. Great customer service- we forgot our AirPods in the room and they promptly mailed it to us in Tokyo!

We really enjoyed our stay at The Gate Hotel. The rooms are large, very comfortable and beautifully appointed. Lovely spacious bathroom and everything spotlessly clean. We absolutely loved the opportunity to try Shakyo in that beautiful chill out space. The guest lounge was a fabulous space also and we really enjoyed the complimentary beverages and sitting by the fire toasting marshmallows. Just gorgeous! Breakfast was a rather elaborate affair, however we were disappointed that our young grandson was charged the extra full price for his breakfast of a piece of toast and a glass of juice when the deal was supposedly "children stay free". While we loved the facilities of The Gate, we would highly recommend some attention be given to all staff training in the area of creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, especially the very over the top security detail guarding the entrance to the breakfast room.

Beautiful property in Kyoto. Comfortable room. Good aircon. Comfy beds. Friendly staff go out of there way to help. Lovely bar and restaurant. Lovely lounge for guests . Loved the toasted marshmallows

The bed was a bit hard. We also were a bit disappointed in the gym. No weight equipment. Only a few cardio machines.

The hotel is in an ideal spot, on a beautiful tree lined street close to public transport, shopping and Pontocho dining alleyway. Our room was big and airy. The patio with complimentary drinks and snacks was also lovely.

The location is fantastic! Within walking distance of major sights and surrounded by restaurants, bars, cafes. The guest lounge is wonderful and relaxing and the view from the bar and restaurant is amazing! The rooms are very comfortable and clean. Can’t say enough about this hotel!

the mattress was a bit hard and I had trouble sleeping.

The room was very clean, very spacious, the location was very close to what we wanted to see and very accessible by public transport. it was very handy as well for the restaurant and bar on the top floor and the lounge was great as well.

Nothing really. The road it is in is very lively indeed but we didn’t hear any noise from our room.

Good size room. Amazing views from the breakfast room. Free wine in the lounge / outside by the fire pit. Central location in the heart of the city’s nightlife
