Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. AustraliaIf there were anything, it would be the 3080 yen required to move your checkout from 11am to 1pm. In our case we did not take this option as the hotel was fully booked and the same fee was requested for a 12pm checkout.
Flawless experience with this hotel. Everything from the rooms, the staff, the location, the bar and restaurant. A 4 star hotel that would rival many 5 star hotels would be our assessment.

The evening reception on the 7th floor was very nice with a firepit outside, although when we were there it was quite warm and didn't really need a fire. The view from the breakfast room was really nice with the sunrise.

Breakfast was good, with many options in the buffet and in the menu. Location is probably the highest point about this hotel. It is close to the restaurants, shopping area and a few train stations. There is a nice big area with artificial grass in front of the property where many people stay - mostly teenage students.

AustraliaWe really enjoyed our stay at The Gate Hotel. The rooms are large, very comfortable and beautifully appointed. Lovely spacious bathroom and everything spotlessly clean. We absolutely loved the opportunity to try Shakyo in that beautiful chill out space. The guest lounge was a fabulous space also and we really enjoyed the complimentary beverages and sitting by the fire toasting marshmallows. Just gorgeous! Breakfast was a rather elaborate affair, however we were disappointed that our young grandson was charged the extra full price for his breakfast of a piece of toast and a glass of juice when the deal was supposedly "children stay free". While we loved the facilities of The Gate, we would highly recommend some attention be given to all staff training in the area of creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, especially the very over the top security detail guarding the entrance to the breakfast room.

The hotel is in an ideal spot, on a beautiful tree lined street close to public transport, shopping and Pontocho dining alleyway. Our room was big and airy. The patio with complimentary drinks and snacks was also lovely.
