The room is very clean and really nice. We had a really nice veiw of the mountain. The staff are very helpful and the hotel itself is fantastic. The location is very central, in between resto/bar area and shopping street.

Best possible location for exploring Kyoto markets during the day and bars at night. Large comfy rooms and a nice bar. Beautiful view of the mountains from the bar and from rooms. Rooms and beds are large and comfy.

Absolutely loved the location which felt like it was in the heart of Kyoto. The restaurant and bar area, where we had breakfast, was stunning with a lovely view of Kyoto. Our room was nice and felt spacious, although the corridor leading to the room felt quite long. Would definitely recommend staying here.

Great location. The daily lounge with free coffee in the morning and beer and wine in the evening is awesome. Great regular bar and restaurant on the top floor is nice too. Great bed, too. We slept so well.

There were no negatives! Just be careful of the very hot and humid weather in Kyoto during July!

The room, service, and stay were impeccable. I even forgot my jacket, and they sent it to my hotel in Tokyo for me free of charge. I will definitely stay at the Gate hotel again on my next visit to Kyoto.

Bikes weren’t available upon arrival, which was disappointing, and we had to reserve them for the last two days of our stay. Additionally, the breakfast offered only 3 main course options (Japanese breakfast only available for the first 30 guests, French Toasts, and Eggs Benedict), limiting variety.

Large and comfortable room, fantastic view at the rooftop bar, excellent location near major attractions, friendly staff, and a lounge with free drinks from 2 PM to 9 PM.

We loved this hotel. Our favorite out of all that we stayed at in Japan. Rooms were large and spacious, and also very clean. Location was amazing and very central in Kyoto. The surrounding neighborhoods had a lot of small restaurants and bars that were very lively but the hotel itself still managed to be peaceful and relaxing. Wish we had been able to stay longer.
