Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaSome equipments in the room are a bit out of date. The hotel does not provide international adaptors which are not up to international norm if you have a large number of visitors from overseas.
The view and location are fantastic.

United StatesLocation was isolated and they don't offer shuttle from toya station. It was also hard to get taxi in morning since they would be all booked up. The shuttle to Sapporo was booked up quickly so I wasn't able to use shuttle and had to book with limited express train to get to Sapporo.
The lobby and buffet area was stunning with the view of the lake. There was welcome berry drink which tasted not too sweet. Staff was friendly and greeted us when we checked in. Orchids lined the whole lobby and was gorgeous. Room had amazing view of the lake and it was cool how you can open window for the private onsen in our bathroom that has actual onsen water. The public onsens at facility were gorgeous as well since they had rooftop onsen so you watch the snow fall while you soak in onsen. There was also cool red onsen water that was downstairs as well. Buffet was delicious and had local Hokkaido ingredients and love they plate many things fresh and have freshly made juice they blend in front of you which was cool. I was able to have view of lake at table we sat at for breakfast and they gave scrunchies to help protect our sleeves for buffet. Ryokan was dog friendly so many cute dogs I could see on lower floor. Room was modern and spacious it was one of top ryokans we stayed at.

SingaporeIf you did not rent a car, you need a taxi do go to the Toya train station. It would be good if the hotel offered a complimentary shuttle bus.
It has everything that a traditional onsen stay needs. Indoor and outdoor onsens, private onsens (for those that reserved more expensive rooms), breakfast and dinner included many dishes, and dairy Hokkaido products were amazing. Between meals and onsen, you can walk around Lake Totya. The view is great, and there are many places where kids can play in the snow.

South KoreaThe staff at the breakfast buffet were friendly and provided good service, but the staff at the lobby who assisted with check-in and check-out seemed unfriendly. Since I am a foreigner, it can be difficult to understand everything at once, but they would often frown for no apparent reason. Considering it’s a hotel in a higher price range, if the service at the lobby is like this, I can’t help but think there is a problem.
The view is fantastic. The lake view from the room is breathtaking. The room was clean and comfortable. The surrounding scenery is great for taking walks. The nighttime fireworks display is quite impressive. The rooftop open-air hot spring is of excellent quality.

United Arab EmiratesThe lighting in the room was a little dim, which gets kind of annoying during winter stays since it gets pitch black dark outside around 5 pm.
The staff were some of the friendliest and most helpful I’ve met, even by Japan’s standards. They helped me book Taxis whenever I needed, arranged for a shuttle bus to take me to the station at the end of my stay, and were always available when you needed them. Amenities were refilled everyday (including the welcome treats!!). The onsen (indoor, outdoor, and traditional) were all clean and provided stunning views of the lake. The hotel itself is pretty close to major attractions (walking distance to the Lake Toya Cruise, 12 minute taxi ride to Lake Hill Farm and Lake Toya Ranch). Breakfast and Dinner served a really good variety of dishes. I particularly loved the Hokkaido dairy selections. When I stayed there, they provided special dishes for guests staying 2 days onwards, which was such a sweet surprise! There’s also a tax free shop called Select 108 attached to the hotel, and I found the prices of souvenirs there very reasonable.

One of the best and premium resort/ hotel. Plenty of of staffs to assist guests. Hotel buffet is splendid with lots of variety and plenty of fresh sashimi, oyster, premium cut beef and more. Best part of this place is the view at the lake is breathtaking. The view over far mountains and the lake is peaceful and beautiful. The hotel has a great hifi system for those audiophiles lovers at the lobby. Plenty of cab services and there’s busses arranged for guest if you opt for it.

United StatesCheck-in was very efficient and smooth. They assisted us with our luggage as soon as we arrived. Luggage was delivered to our room before we finished checking in. The room was clean, comfortable, and quite large for Japan. The onsen in our bathroom could accommodate my wife and I comfortably. The view from the room and onsen overlooking the lake was breathtaking. The French and Japanese kaiseki meals were very nice. The seating overlooked the main dining area with views of the lake. Breakfast buffet had a good variety of selections for various taste. The spa was clean, private, and the staff was very professional. The staff was always polite and helpful throughout our stay. We would highly recommend this resort.
