Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaIt is a large resort so there will be large crowds - thankfully the restaurant and onsens are large enough to accommodate all. Not suitable if you are after a cosy and intimate onsen experience.
Location was excellent and our rooms had a view of the lake. Beds and pillows were super comfy. The firework festival was amazing but best viewed just outside the resort (as advised by the staff). The staff could speak multiple languages so there were no issues with communication. Love the book&labo space which was good to sit and read/work/relax. The onsens were located on the top floor (outdoor and indoor), which rotated between male and female overnight so you could try both. While there was a traditional onsen on level 2 as well, I didn't try that one out. Love that the staff provided robes for all guests including the kids (specific to their ages) so it was a good fit. The buffet dinner and breakfast had a great selection and food was amazing. The restaurant has views of the lake which was a bonus.

ThailandNothing—except the private bath—was already fully booked.
The hotel's restaurant provided a diverse and delectable menu, catering to a variety of culinary preferences. The check-in process was streamlined and efficient, facilitated by the courteous and competent staff. The check-out procedure was prompt and hassle-free. The aesthetically pleasing environment and convenient proximity to prominent local attractions enhanced the overall experience. The shared pool and spa facilities were satisfactory.

New ZealandNothing not to dislike with The Lakeview Toya. A bit pricey but worth the experience...
What a hotel experience. Would recommend it and would be staying at The Lake View Toya next time we're in the area. It is a full package with Buffet Dinner and Breakfast. The rooms are just spacious with full amenities. The common areas in the lobby reflects the class and luxury. There's a fantastic Macintosh based h-ifi system in the lobby area for audiophiles to appreciate. The dining area with the high ceiling and full length glass windows just captures the vistas of Lake Toya with the Nakajima Islands especially Oshima. The buffet menu was extensive with lots of local Japanese and international cuisine and the cooking is equally excellent. The onsen is large with full length glass to capture the Lake Toya views. But go up to the open air rooftop heated infinity pool and you get views of Toyako without obstruction. Don't miss that. Its just the right complete package.

SingaporeSome desk staff couldn’t speak other languages apart from Japanese. Hard to communicate over the phone. Private onsen sessions were very expensive as well.
Spectacular view of the lake and very clean rooms. Superb buffet spread as well.

United StatesThe hotel room we stayed in has a balcony view of Lake Toya, which was very beautiful. Breakfast and dinner buffet was excellent. The staff service are also great, and they even prepare a nice photo of me and my wife in a photoframe, which was heartwarming.

United StatesPhenomenal stay. Had the private onsen and it was totally worth it. Dinner and breakfast buffets were outstanding, which surprised us because normally a buffet can be a bit middling.

SingaporeWe stayed for 2 nights, so the buffet was a little repetitive, could have a little more options or change the menu slightly. However, overall it was still a good meal.
Room was spacious and comfortable. we had an amazing view of the lake. It was really nice to wake up to the breathtaking view every morning. They provided a change of yukata daily. The hotel is newly renovated, so everything nicely designed.

SingaporePerhaps having shuttle service to and from the train station would make it more convenient for travellers who are not driving or coming from Sapporo to be able to use the bus service. We happened to get a taxi on exiting the train station so it was still convenient for us.
Excellent dinner and breakfast with good variety and quality of food at the buffet. Amazing view of the lake from the room, at meals and outdoor onsen. Facilities were well maintained and staff was extremely welcoming and polite. Great place to spend a night or 2!
