Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We use a weighted review system which means that the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaFor what you pay, there is little to complain about. I found a used glass of water on the floor and a used tissue under the bed. These did not negatively affect my stay though. I would have liked an extra bath towel.
Basic accommodation in a great location + good price.

BelarusSomebody left there underwear at the room and they didn't clean it. You can guess how clean it was at the room if the stuff didn't even notice someone's underwear. We were living at 1 floor so it was pretty noisy (can hear the cars outside).

ArgentinaA bit far from the train station while carrying heavy luggage.
The room was quite comfy and spacious. Amenities readily available as expected for a japanese hotel. Although the lack of staff present was a bit out of the usual for us, we were able to check in and out easily.

PhilippinesThe room was quite spacious considering you are in Japan. We were able to open up all our suitcases and still manage to have extra space to move within the room. The location was in a quiet neighborhood and there was a nearby shrine you could visit especially first thing in the morning which was a bonus! Amenities were provided and a washing machine is definitely a plus when you're staying for a couple of days.

ChileThere is room for improvement, first, one of the beds was really hard, second, there is little to no storage were to put our staff, and lastly, we only had 1 set of towels during our 8 days stay, and they were a bit thin.
Staff is really friendly and highly responsive, they answer quickly, and they give you all important information about check-in and check-out in advance. It has a great location, you can easily go by walking or by bus to Gion, Kiyomizu dera, and many others, really close to a train station and just steps away from a museum, restauranta and a FamilyMart. The place has a kitchen and a washing machine which were very helpful during our stay. It also included some amenities that I really appreciated

Czech RepublicI would recommend simplifying the system for trash disposal or informing guests in advance about what to do with it. I had to use hand soap from the bathroom to clean the dishes, as there was no other detergent available.
All facilities matched the description, and there were no issues with check-in (as mentioned in other reviews). The system was intuitive, and the instructions sent by the property in advance were clear. There is no reception, but communication with the property was easy and smooth. Arranging fresh towels or trash disposal was hassle-free. The washing machine is a great bonus. The location is really convenient for sightseeing.

CanadaCarpet was a little dirty, but otherwise clean.
Location was perfect, and easy for us to get to some of the most beautiful temples and shrines. Its on a little tiny side street, one way traffic. Some nice restaurants for vegans in the area too. The young man who maintains the place was very nice and very helpful when we had to check-in. Great room, large enough for our luggage, had a tiny kitchen, microwave, stove, fridge and best of all - a tiny washing machine for our clothes. Only recommendation, across Japan, please provide a couple of extra pillows.

ItalyThe pillows are not so comfortable. The beds were separated which is not ideal for a couple. Being foreigners in Japan without a Japanese phone number, I think it would be more helpful to have a physical person at the entrance in case of problems.
Spacious and clean room, good position. Easy check-in and check-out. Many useful facilities available such as AC, microwave and washing machine. There is also a mosquito net separating the room from the balcony.

MalaysiaCleanliness could be improved as we found hair in the bathroom and in the shelves around the sink. Light sleepers may get woken up by noise as it's not totally soundproof so you can hear people talking, and the curtains do let quite a bit of light in. It would be good if they could use key cards instead of physical keys since you need to use it to enter the inner part of the hotel (where the lifts and rooms are), and it would be good in emergency situations if you need to enter quickly - one weird drunk guy tried to follow us back from the convenience store and since there's nobody on duty at night and the street is dark, it would be faster to tap the key instead of trying to shove the physical key in the lock.
Great location near Shichijo Station and Family Mart, as well as some cute bars, cafes and McDonalds. It is on a residential street and behind a university. Room is spacious and good for two people and has a washing machine, detergent, a medium sized fridge and clothing rack. You can take more towels from downstairs if you need them. Check-in and check-out simple as they sent a guide and video on how to get the key - they don't have 24-hour staff and we never saw them until the day we checked out when housekeeping was around. The price was very good when we booked a few months ahead, especially considering the proximity to the station.

SingaporeCheck in was abit troublesome. I wondered if I could have checked in earlier? Since the key was already in the lock box. There was some dust at the corners, observable only if you really want to find it.
It's a complete studio, what's not to like? The bathroom is more spacious than I anticipated. There is a Book-Guide on Kyoto. I let my clothes dry in the bathroom with the ventilator on; it did dry overnight. The bed linens were really, really good. Not the generic hotel "silky" linen; the fine yet subtly coarse texture was a real joy to feel. The pillow is also reversible; beads on one side and foam on the other - that is truly considerate.
